Dirt and leaves swirled around in the air as a calm wind blew outside. The afternoon was chilly due to a cold front being out. I stared at people as they walked slowly–some quickly– by. My eyes traveled around the Café, a warm feeling spreading through my chest as I watched my customers enjoy the goodies, coffee and other things that I had personally made, with the help of my best friend.
The bell above the door dinged as the door was opened. A lady with long blonde hair, blue eyes and a warm smile approached me, a little boy who looked just like her was by her side. He was looking around as he held his mother's hand.
A smile appeared on my face. I had grown to love kids, they were so adorable and innocent. “Hello and welcome to Graysons' Café,” I said to the lady. “What can I get you?”
“Hi, I would like a coffee with extra cream and three cubes of sugar,” She ordered as she gave me the money.
Sierra, my best friend, started to prepare what she ordered. My eyes landed on the little boy by her side. I watched as he stared longing at what I had baked this morning. He probably wanted a treat but didn't want to ask for it. I took a paper bag and placed a jelly filled donut in it. His mother collected the coffee and I handed the little boy the bag.
His eyes lit up and he looked at me with the biggest smile. “Thank you!” He said happily.
I mentally cooed at how cute he looked with his two front teeth missing. I gave him a smile. “You're welcome dear.” My eyes met the mother's own and she didn't have to open her mouth to say thank you, her eyes said enough.
Sierra appeared beside me as the mother and son walked out. “I don't know how you do it Gems,” She said beside me. “But if what you told me when we first met had happened to me, I would have become a miserable grouch.”
My smile wavered a little. With a sigh, I turned towards her. Sierra had beautiful, long black hair, her eyes were like the color of molten chocolate, she had a button nose and freckles doted along her cheeks and nose. I had met Sieara three years ago.
I was walking along a road, I had been running for days, I was hungry, thirsty and dirty. Her parents were driving along the road and they stopped at my feet. They carried me all the way to their home in a small town called Miniature Falls which was practically in the middle of no where. They took me in and cared for me, fed me, gave me shelter, they did so much and I was truly blessed to have met them. They treated me as if I was their very own child.
Sieara was their only child, we immediately clicked when we met and we have been best friends ever since. I tapped her on her nose. “You shouldn't change for anyone,” I advised her.
She snorted and rolled her eyes. “More like don't change because of anyone.”
I pursed my lips and nodded. “That too.”
