T Y L E R ’S P. O. V.
“Can we turn on the radio?” Saské, Novia’s friend asked.
Novia was my little sister, she was fifteen going on sixteen. I had taken it up as my responsibility to pick her up from training, she was a swimmer for her school. I didn’t expect that her friends would be coming along. Novia looked like the replica of mom. She had long brown hair, brown eyes a bottom nose and slightly chubby cheeks. When mom got pregnant with her, it was a shock to us all, I didn’t think that mom would want more kids after what happened between her and my father but we welcomed Novia into this world with happiness.
“Tyler.”
I glanced into the rearview mirror. Saské blushed as I stared at her. “Yes?” I answered.
“T-the radio, can I play it?”
“He’s gonna say no Sas,” Novia said from beside me. “He always does.”
I shrugged. “Yeah, sure.”
I could feel the three girls gaping at me.
“Okay, you have been acting nice to everyone for the past couple of weeks, what’s gotten into you?”
I smiled softly. “What are you talking about?”
“You know what I’m talking about, don’t try to play smart.”
I chuckled. “ Okay sweetheart.”
“Ice cream place up ahead Tyler,” Bella, Novia’s other friend said. “ You promised us ice cream last week.”
I sighed, kids and their brains. There was an ice cream shop ahead, it was right across from Liberty park. I was contemplating whether I should stop or not, it was a few minutes to seven and my mother said that a few family members of ours would be visiting us and she wanted me to be there for the diner which would start at eight. I decided to stop because I didn’t want the kids to hold it against me any longer.
I parked my car behind a Saleen S7 before turning to the kids. “Make it quick guys, you should have been home a long time ago.”
Novia snorted as she got out. “Who’s fault is that?”
I sighed and got out with them. They rushed into the building, I walked slowly behind them.
There were a few people sitting and eating ice cream and other things, mostly teenage couples. There was a lady at the front of the line who looked like she was ordering everything that owner sold. She had short red hair, it was cut into a Bob and it looked as if she had dyed her hair. Her red hair contrasted against her pale skin. She was dressed in a white T-shirt and a pair of washed out jeans. I was getting annoyed, just as I was about to tell the lady that she needed to go on a diet, she got what she ordered and turned around.
When I looked at her face, I felt like the wind got knocked out of me. Standing in front of was Gemma, and fuck did she look beautiful. She looked up as if she could feel someone watching her. Well a lot of people were watching her, but her eyes landed on me. She smiled at me and stopped before me.
“Tyler, right?” She asked.
I opened my mouth to answer her but no words left my mouth so I closed it and nodded. Gemma giggled at my speechlessness.
“I’m just joking, I know who you are baby daddy.”
I chuckled and this time words did leave my mouth. “I see that Tasha is rubbing off on you in such a short time.”
She too chuckled. “Yeah, I saw her that other day and we sat and chat…she told me everything.” Gemma stared pointed at me.
I gulped. “Everything?”
“Everything.”
Tasha just couldn’t have let me do it. Gemma laughed again.
“I’m not mad at you Tyler. I would have done the same thing if it was me. I forgive you.”
A sigh of relief left my lips. Thank God.
“I guess I’ll see you around.” She walked off.
“Wait!” I called. I sighed into my pocket for my wallet. Taking out a twenty dollar bill, I handed it to Novia and headed towards Gemma. We walked out of the shop together.
“Why aren’t you mad?” I asked her.
She walked in the direction of the Saleen S7.“Like I said, I would’ve done the said thing.”
“But—”
“Shush Tyler.” She opened the door of the Saleen S7.
“This is your car?” I asked in shock.
“Yup.” She got in and put on her seatbelt. “Tell you what, you, me, date, tomorrow night, nine o’ clock sharp.”
I was again shocked. Gone was the Gemma who was alwayd hesitating. Wow.
“Oh uhm, okay. Just give me your number so I can contact you.” I took my phone from my pocket. After giving me her number, she drove off wishing me a good night. I told her to say hello to the kids and give them a good night kiss for me.
“Who was that?” Novia asked from behind me.
“The girl I actually wanted to marry,” I said with a sad sigh.
She appeared in front of me looking at me is if I was high. “You want to get married?”
I nodded slowly. “Yes.” The way she was staring at me made me feel weird.
“You really are changing,” She mumbled.
“So we're to look out for Wedding invitations then?” Bella asked.
I looked at her with a small smile. “I guess.”

I ran my hand through my hair then ruffled it. Pleased with my appearance, I glanced at my watch to check the time. It was a couple minutes to eight, my cousins and their friends would be arriving soon. I was in a pair of dark jeans and a grew sweater.
I left my temporary room and headed out to the dining room. Novia was setting the table, a small smile made it's way on my face, Novia was turning into a sweet and beautiful young lady, I felt happy that I was apart of her life as she was growing. I loved my little family, even though Novia and I didn’t have a good father figure in our lives, we still lived our lives the best we could, not letting the absence of our father get to us.
I headed into the kitchen where I saw my mother taking out Ham from out of the oven.
“How many people are coming?” I asked as I stared at the two pots on the stove.
“A lot,” Mom said with a laugh.
The door bell rang. I told mom that I'd open the door then left the kitchen.
