Casey’s POV

“Casey, Dylan’s here” mum shouted from the bottom of the stairs. I was excited to see him. He’d called and said he was coming round tonight and had a surprise for me. But first, I had to get dressed up, so I put on the same black dress that Laura had bought me and some black heels and a touch of makeup.

As I walked down the stairs, I saw him stood there. His mouth was hanging open, slightly moronically. “You look beautiful” he said in a whisper.

I blushed and giggled. Nathan never made me feel this good. By the time id’ got myself dressed for a night out; he was already drunk and would barely notice. And if he did notice, he was thinking it was for someone else. I sighed and pushed the thoughts of Nathan away.

“Thank you. You don’t look so bad yourself” I smiled.

When I got to the bottom, he pulled out from behind his back some more roses and lilies.

“For you, Princess” he said with the biggest ever grin on his face.

I absolutely love lilies. But he’d only bought me some on Saturday.

“Well, they’re for you here” he replied when I relayed that to him.

I smiled and thanked him. “So, where are we going?” I asked. Surely we weren’t getting dressed up like this just to give me some flowers?

“Wait, there’s one more thing, Princess” and he pulled out a wrapped box. I looked up at him, a little unsure. He didn’t have to buy things for me. He nodded so I opened it.  He’d bought me a new phone.

“At the moment, it’s only got my number in, but put your Mum’s and Dad’s in. And put Laura’s in too. Anyone you don’t want having it, don’t give them it.”

I didn’t know what to say. “Dylan… you didn’t have to buy me a new phone. I can afford one myself.”

“I wanted to. And can you?” he asked, looking at me with that knowing face again. I was skint. Nathan took most of my money to spend on booze and left me with enough to buy food and essentials. Then I had nothing left.

I sighed, defeated. “Alright, but that’s it. I’m not going back to the shop, he’ll know to go there on my shifts, so when I find a new job, I’m paying you back.”

“I’m sorry Casey, but you’re not paying me back. And you’re not getting a new job. You wanted to go to college?”

     I nodded

“Well, you’re going to college. I don’t need my money for anything, my Grandparents’ are looking after me. And I can save enough to get a mortgage and help you out at the same time.”

I could see where this was going. “I’m not a charity case, Dylan”

“I know, princess” he soothed and pulled me close.

“Casey, look” my mum butted in. I looked up at her. “I went out today and moved £5000 into a bank account for you” she passed me the details of the account. “And before you say anything, it’s your money anyway. We did a trust fund, you know like Lola’s got. But when you were born there wasn’t anything like that, so we just opened a savings account for you. There’s more in there, but 5,000 should get you started, right?”

I was absolutely gobsmacked. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t have a clue what to say. £5,000? That would definitely get me sorted at college and a flat for myself. It would have to have 2 rooms, so that when I finished college, I could apply to have Lola back. Oh shit. I forgot to mention that to mum. I looked up at her and she was still smiling at me.
