Dylan’s POV

Casey was throwing clothes into her suitcase and shouting at me. All I could do was watch her. Why is she letting this ruin our holiday? It’s probably just some stupid prank. He’s found out where we are and ordered flowers to be sent here to freak us out. But why would he go to all that trouble when he could wait til we got home? My head was all over the place and Casey was making it worse.

“Casey, come on, there’s no need for all this. We don’t even know if the flowers are from him”

“I can’t believe you don’t believe me, Dylan! He’s doing this to stress us out! I’m going home” she shouted at me. “If you don’t want to go back now, then fine. You stay here and enjoy the rest of your holiday, but I’m not staying here anymore. This place freaks me out.” She had a genuine look of fear in her eyes and stopped running around the room to give me a look of displeasure. She didn’t want to go home really, but she didn’t want to stay somewhere where she didn’t feel safe.

“We shouldn’t let this ruin our holiday, Case” I stood up and stopped her from continuing to ransack the place with her clothes. “He doesn’t deserve all this effort you’re making for him. We shouldn’t run away from him, he wants this. He’s scum, Casey. Scum!”

Casey’s eyes shot up upon hearing what I’d said and she looked at me. I hadn’t voiced my opinion on Nathan before that and it must have come as a shock to hear it.

“Yes, Casey, I said it. He’s scum. He doesn’t deserve your time” She seemed to relax at my opinion. Like she thought the same but was waiting for me to say it first.

Casey sat on the bed next to me and I cupped her face. “That man is evil, Casey. He nearly beat you to death because you dared tell him you were going to college. He is not worth an ounce of your time, Princess. The most that man’s worth is a prison cell. Or even better. Death.”

“I want to go home, Dylan. We’ll be safer there. We can get an injunction taken out on him. Look, I’ll even phone them from the airport. If I’m honest, Dylan. I’m scared of him. And what if he hurts Lola?

“He won’t hurt Lola, Case. He doesn’t care about Lola. He wants you. That much is obvious” I paused before continuing. “He’s just annoyed that you’re not bothered about him anymore. He’s doing it to freak you out and it’s working!”

She nodded and sighed in understanding. “Let’s go home, hey?”  She nodded and we packed the rest of our bags in silence before making our way down to reception to order an early flight out of here.

As there weren’t any earlier flights and our flight didn’t leave for another 5 hours, we decided to leave our luggage with the receptionist and head down to the beach one last time.

We were still walking in silence when we reached the beach. Casey’s attention drifted out to the sea again. I could tell she loved it here. I’ll bring her back one day, I thought as we walked down the beach front. When all this has died down, I’ll bring Casey and Lola.

“I’ll miss this” Casey whispered when we stopped to watch the tides.

“I will, too, Princess.” I kissed her on her cheek and we stared out to the ocean like we had done that first night here. It was so peaceful. I never wanted to leave.

“Is this ever going to end?” Casey whispered in a voice hardly audible.

     “All this with Nathan?”

     She nodded

I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her back. “Of course it’s going to end, Casey. We’re going to the airport and phoning the police from there. It will end, Casey”
