Casey’s POV

A knock at the door woke me up. I groaned and looked at the clock, it was gone 3 in the afternoon. I must have fallen asleep, noticing that I was still sat on the sofa. I stood up, rubbed my eyes and walked to the front door opening it.

“Casey Nichols?” A voice asked, behind a great big bunch of Roses and Lillies. The woman passed me the flowers and smiled. “The man that ordered these was absolutely gorgeous. You’re well in there, girl!”

I chuckled and I knew instantly who they were from, I didn’t even need to read the note that said: I noticed you didn’t have any around the house, so these are for you. Your favourites. Dylan. X

Dylan was the only person who knew these were my favourite flowers. He used to buy me them all the time. I closed the door and put the flowers in a vase. They were absolutely beautiful. The bunch was well made and it reminded me of all the times we spent together. It reminded me of the times we went out and he’d buy me a single red rose. It was so sweet, my heart melted every time he bought me a new one.

My phone ringtone interrupted my chain of thought. I didn’t recognise the number, but I answered it anyway.

“Hello?” I asked, wondering who would be ringing me on a number I didn’t recognise. God, I hope it’s not some sort of stalker, I thought when the person on the other end didn’t immediately reply. “Hello? I asked again, getting slightly impatient. I walked back through to the living room and was about to end the call when the person spoke up.

“Hey, sorry, Casey, I was talking to someone in the shop. I should have really phoned you afterwards, huh?” I recognised the voice as Dylan, but I wasn’t sure. How did he get my number? That’s the first thing I asked him. “I saw Laura in the shop, just now and told her about the flowers. You have got them, right?” I looked back towards the kitchen where the flowers stood and smiled.

      “Yes, Dylan, they’ve just arrived.”

“See, I knew you hadn’t lost your smile” He continued. “I knew that sending flowers would make you smile, and you’ve been so down lately”

     "Yeah, sorry” I mumbled.

      “Fancy doing something tonight?

      “I can’t”

      “Why not?”

I sighed. I couldn’t tell him I was seeing Lola. He didn’t know about her and I couldn’t tell him she was my little sister. He’s not dumb; he’d figure it out in a heartbeat. “Um, family dinner with the parents. We do it once a month” I lied. I hated lying to him, he always knew.

“Uh, okay. I’m not quite sure I believe that, you’ve got that tone of voice in you that says you’re not being honest, Casey. You know I can tell when you’re lying.” He sounded hurt.

“Sorry, I just have a few things to do, okay. And I’m honestly going to see my parents tonight.”

“That’s more like it.” He smiled. “You know I don’t like it when you lie, Case. Tomorrow night?” he asked.

I sighed again and said thank you for the flowers before we ended the conversation and I agreed that tomorrow night we would do something. I don’t know what he thought he was doing by sending these flowers, but it wasn’t going to work.

Half an hour later, Nathan arrived home from work and I ushered him into the living room, telling him that I wanted to tell him something. He sat down on the sofa and leant back.
