Beep! Beep! Beep!

In the distance, I could hear the beeping of something, like an alarm clock. And then faint music.

I opened my eyes and instantly the bright lights stung them. Groaning, I adjusted my eyes to the light before opening them further. Looking around the room, I noticed I was in a hospital bed. I looked over to the door and noticed some sort of guard stood in the doorway.

"Nurse!" the guard shouted, which erupted a noise to the left of me. I looked over and saw Dylan bolting upright in a chair next to the bed.

"Oh, Princess, you're awake." Tears were forming in the slits of his eyes and he swatted them away with his left hand. Dylan was right handed.

"Dylan, you're right hand-"

I hadn't noticed before. He was handcuffed to the chair.

"Dylan. What did you do?" I asked, horrified that he was handcuffed.

"Case"

"No, Dylan, tell me why you're handcuffed to the chair!" then it hit me. "Nathan?"

He nodded.

I was speechless. I honestly didn't know what to say.

"He's not dead. But it's still attempted murder. They let me stay here with you because you were so ill, Casey. But they're going to take me away soon"

"You've done it again Dylan. You're leaving me at the worst possible time. I've got something to tell you Dylan and you're going to wish you'd never done this stupid thing. You should have left it to the police."

"I know, Casey, but he was evil and I thought you were dead." He replied, softly.

"Dylan. It's about Lola" I tried to shift in the bed, but as soon as I attempted it, I felt a surge of pain through my stomach.

"Don't try to move, Casey, just lie still. What's this about Lola? She's okay; she's with your parents."

I hesitated before telling him. I knew this would make him feel remorseful for shooting Nathan, but I had to tell him, I'd left it long enough. And it was my fault.

"Lola's your daughter, Dylan. We slept together just before you left before and I was pregnant before you left, but you were leaving, and I didn't want to force you into staying."

His jaw hit the floor and shifted in his seat.

"What?"

"She's yours Dylan. Didn't you notice? She's the spitting image of you."

"Well, I did notice, but I thought I was just imagining things, Casey. I so wanted her to be mine and imagined it every day. I thought it was all in my head"

I shook my head.

"I'm so sorry"

Dylan took a deep breath and let it all sink in before he spoke again.

"Casey, listen to me. I'm so happy that Lola's my daughter and I promise that even from Prison, I'll do everything I can for her, but I'm not going to be around for a while, you know. You need to get Lola back and get your lives back on track. Hopefully I won't be in prison for too long. I was in shock after he stabbed you; I wasn't in the right frame of mind temporarily. Maybe they'll be lenient because of that."

"You can't rely on that, Dylan."

"I can give it a go." He scooted the chair closer to me and leant forward to lean in closer and whispered in my ear.

"I love you, Casey Nichols"

I smiled.

"I'll come for you one day and we'll be a family again."

"5 minutes, Price. You know the rules; now she's awake, you're going straight back in the clink." The guard at the door told Dylan

"Great way to put it Taylor" Dylan retaliated.

Taylor scowled at him.

I pulled him closer to me and whispered back in his ear.

"That'll be great. I love you, Dylan Price."

Dylan's POV

The door burst open and I pulled the trigger. I wasn't going to let him get away with it. He stabbed Casey, for fuck sake. I lost her once; I wasn't going to let some prick take her away again. He just knelt there and took it. He knelt next to Casey's body and let me shoot him. I don't know whether it was remorse or shock, but he didn't move an inch, until the bullet hit him and he fell to the floor.

I felt relief wash over me as I heard his body clunk to the floor and the police dragged me away. I did it for Casey. He'd killed her, so I killed him. Lola was a strong girl; she'd be perfectly fine with Casey's parents.

I was numb as the officers dragged me down to the police station and took my finger prints, took my statement 10 times over and finally slammed a cell door in my face. The next day they deported me back to England and was due to be sentenced in 2 weeks. I'd pleaded guilty. There was no need for a court case. I did it. I admit it. And I'm damn well pleased I did it. He was a vile man who didn't deserve to live on this earth.

It wasn't until a week later, that I found out that neither Casey nor Nathan were dead. Casey had extensive surgery to remove part of her bowel, her womb and a lung after it collapsed. Casey still wasn't awake yet, but the warden let me leave on compassionate grounds and go stay with Casey in the hospital. Nathan was a lucky bastard. Even though I'd shot him in the head, the bullet hadn't hit anything lethal so after months in hospital and several operations, the lucky bastard got out of hospital, but unfortunately for him, he went straight to prison for stabbing Casey.

I received regular letters from Casey. She'd got Lola back after realising that life was too short and she should stop being so selfish. She never brought Lola to see me though. I don't think Lola knew that I was her dad. I was still Mister Dylan for months after and every so often she'd ask for Mister Dylan randomly. She got better, Lola did. She fought and fought and with the help of the chemotherapy she hasn't even relapsed yet. It still could happen, but it hasn't yet and she's lived a full life ever since.

I've been writing to Lola too. I told her that she was my daughter and she was going to be the most spoilt child ever after writing to my Granddad and asking him to make regular payments from my account to pay towards Lola's upbringing.

2 weeks later I was sentenced to 9 years in prison, serving half of that for good behaviour. Lola would be nearly 12 when I got out. So here I am, waiting. Waiting for the day I can go back to my family. Waiting for the day I can finally see my daughter again instead of staring at a picture.

I'm glad I did what I did. I did it for my family. And I wouldn't change it for the world.
