After spending about a week in the palace, something finally happened.
Both Maxine and Ash finally arrived at the palace and were definitely enjoying their time.
They seemed to be in awe at everything around them and it was hilarious to see their jaws drop every time they saw a big room.
Despite this, however, I was still extremely paranoid; I could remember the last time I let my guard down and I didn't want anything to happen to me.
That was why I had at least three guards trailing behind me 24/7. Well, that and also the fact that Jamie ordered them to be there.
Although I did feel safer with the guards around, I didn't like being followed at all times.
It was as if the guards were indirectly telling me that I wasn't strong enough to protect myself.
It made me feel weak. Useless. (I'm pretty sure you know what I feel about being useless). Bleep my pride issues.
Finally, on one fateful day, Jamie let me go to the back garden (yeah the palace has one of those) with only one guard.
I had to bring at least one weapon with me, however, it was still good enough _ I was able to get Jamie to trust me.
I mean, it wasn't that Jamie didn't trust me; it was more like he... wanted to protect me.
Anyway, I was followed by one of the guards named Edward Hughes.
Me and Eddie (as I liked to call him) walked towards the back entrance and into the back garden.
The garden was mainly famous for one thing _ the Celestian Tree.
Now before you start laughing your butts off at how ridiculous it sounds, hear me out: the Celestian Tree is basically like a magical storeroom.
Well... natural storeroom.
The tree contains the essence of each element, including the element of light.
The first time I saw the tree, I almost fainted because of the amount of energy that radiated off of it!
Ever since then, I'd regularly visit the tree _ I was literally addicted to the energy!
You know what, in Earth, the tree would probably be classified as a drug. So, technically speaking, I was a drug addict.
Cool!
When we reached the tree, I took a deep breath in, feeling the rush of power flow through my veins.
I have never felt so powerful before in my whole life.
I relished in the magic and walked up to the ancient tree, pressing my hand against its trunk.
I sighed contently, feeling the power rush through me. Suddenly, I wanted more. More power. More magic.
I felt myself become drawn in as I let more and more magic flow through me. The magic started to become the only thing that I thought of _ it literally invaded my mind.
I was about to lose myself in the flow of magic however, I heard the sound of a sword being drawn.
I turned around, letting go of the tree, and almost gasped out loud: Eddie had his sword raised above his head as if he was about to strike me.
I hurriedly unsheathed my own weapon and blocked Eddie's attack.
"So you're one of them," I said quietly before slamming my sword against his, gritting my teeth.
Eddie simply grunted and blocked my other attack, he then kicked his leg under my feet, causing me to fall.
Thanks to my sweaty hands, I dropped my sword in the process.
"Bleep!" I cursed quietly.
Attempting to calm my nerves, I took a deep breath in before conjuring a ball of light and shooting it at Eddie.
I was almost positive that the ball would shoot Eddie back however he shielded himself, using some sort of strange magic.
The same as the one that surrounded the arrow!
Oooh... conspiracy theory.
Anyway, I then continuously shot more and more balls of energy, only for them to be deflected by Eddie.
By then, Eddie was poised in front of me with his sword raised once more.
He then stabbed me.
It wasn't in the chest like I expected it to be, no, it was in my shoulder.
I screamed in pure agony and collapsed on the ground, making sure that my wounded shoulder wasn't touching the muddy ground.
The pain was unbearable, way worse than what I felt when I was mentally attacked.
I felt like screaming, crying but I couldn't _ it hurt too much.
I felt my bile rise up and had to force it down. I let silent tears slide down my face _ I was going to die.
I wanted to fight back so badly but I couldn't. He was too strong.
I could've sworn I felt Eddie stab me a couple more times, however, I wasn't sure.
When I looked at my shoulder, I saw crimson blood flow all the way down to the floor. There was so much of it.
I needed to fight back. I needed to stop him before he killed me. I tried to stand up multiple times however Eddie forced me back onto the ground.
I let out a soundless scream as more blood gushed out of the wound.
Eddie finally took his already bloodied sword and was about to stab me one last time. One last strike.
Before I could feel the last wound, I lost my grip on consciousness and for possibly the last time, I closed my eyes.
