"You just had to do that didn't you?" I spat, walking barefooted towards the royals wing.
My feet were literally soaking wet from the mud on the ground _ why did I have to forget to wear my socks?
"What? Your shoes were right there, next to a pond and you wanted me to slap you. Now, I'm not slapping my best friend and future queen and what else could I have done?" Jamie defended whilst I rolled my eyes.
I couldn't help but noticed how my heart fluttered when he called me his best friend.
"You could've slapped me as I told you to," I replied quietly, "I deserve it. I'm ungrateful and should be punished."
Jamie looked at me strangely before grabbing my shoulders and forcing me to face him.
"Why a slap?" Jamie raised a brow at me.
"Because violence is the best way to discipline incompetent children," I replied, almost wincing at the memories that phrase awakened.
"Who told you that?" His voice was soft, all the amusement left his eyes only to be replaced by a curious expression.
"This girl at my school... and then a teacher..." I said quietly.
I almost let a few tears slide, however, I composed myself before carrying on with the story.
"When I was 11, I stole food from a shop... we were struggling financially and I wanted to treat my family to something expensive. Like an idiot, I was caught stealing... the next day, Mary (the girl I was on about) wouldn't stop taunting me about it. Eventually, I snapped and attacked her. I have never seen that teacher so mad. Especially since I almost strangled Mary to death. I almost killed her," I stopped talking, letting a few tears trickle down my face.
I expected Jamie to say something like how much of an awful person I am however he didn't. Instead, he placed his hand on my shoulder and patted my back reassuringly.
He understood. He nearly drowned a whole bunch of villagers. He knew what I felt.
"I remember the feeling of getting slapped by that teacher. Then, she told Mary to start punching me. Our school didn't have a nurse so I had to walk home like that... I even had to lie to my mum and Mark mainly because I couldn't have them stress about me..." I trailed off at the end, mainly because I remembered what some things which I tried to forget.
"I wasn't able to tell anyone else about this. I mean, it was a thief's word against a teacher's. This carried on for a couple of months. They were clever; they punched me hard enough for it to hurt but not too hard for bruises to show. Eventually, the school found out and fired the woman. However, Mary never taunting me."
Jamie simply nodded at me, showing that he understood my reason for almost killing someone.
He didn't tell me that it wasn't my fault, (that would've made me feel worse) no, he just stood there and listened.
Bleeping hell, I never thought I'd ever be similar to that jammie dodger _ ever.
"Well, I guess we can both forget about our messed up lives and watch something," Jamie grabbed my elbow and gently pulled me up the carpeted stairs up to the royal's wing.
When we walking into the area, we found Sophie standing there with her arms on her hips.
"So, brother. Did you do what I told you to? Cause if you didn't..." she smiled sadistically.
"We've made up, ok? Look, friends," he laced his fingers through mine and lifted our hands in the air to show Sophie.
I wanted to yank his hand away but seen as Sophie looked like she could kill someone, I didn't really want to test her patience.
