Xavier's weary legs couldn't carry him any farther. The buildings along the road were smashed and destroyed.Horrified screams resounded in the distance.

"What can I do?" "This is horrible..." "I'm all alone..." "This might be the end of me...." One year earlier... The repetitive beep of Xavier's alarm clock awakened him. He tapped the snooze button and struggled out of bed. The dim light from outside signified how early it was. Xavier heard a sound from downstairs. He ran down the stairs; he went through the living room and walked into the kitchen. He heard the noise coming from there refrigerator. He looked to see who it was. It was a kid with short brown hair, white skin, and brown eyes. Xavier realized it was Haze. Haze is Xavier best friend.

"What are you doing in my house and what are you doing to my refrigerator?"

Haze smiled and laughed. "Well I was walking down the street, and I saw your house, and I decided to come in."

"How did you get in here?" asked Xavier.

"The door was open," said Haze,

"You should really keep that locked."

"Yeah, I know," said Xavier, "can you go now? I need to get ready for school."

"Okay,okay," "I'm going now, bye."

"Some times he can get super annoying." thought Xavier. Xavier's mom came into the kitchen. "Hey Mom," said Xavier.

"Hi, sweetie," Xavier's mom said, "How are you doing in this beautiful morning?"

"I'm doing fine,"  "I don't know about that." "You sound grumpy."

"No, I'm fine,"

"Okay, can you go and mail these letters for me?"

"Sure," said Xavier, "I'll be right back." Xavier was running down the street to the mail box when a man slammed right into Xavier.

"Whoops, sorry. I didn't see you." said Xavier The man got right back up and ran away. Xavier saw something on the ground. It was shiny and red.

"Sir, you dropped something." But it was too late. The man was too far away now. Xavier looked down at the Crystal.

"I guess I should take it home," said Xavier. Xavier got home and told his mom about it.

"Well, there's nothing we can do about it now," said Xavier's mom. "I guess you can keep it."

"Oh, okay, I will keep it safe," Xavier ran upstairs to his bedroom and called Haze.

"What!" said Haze, "I'm at school."

"Oh, sorry," "I just want to tell you about a thing I found."

"Okay, what is it?"

"I bumped into a guy earlier today, and he dropped a Crystal, but he ran away too fast, so I couldn't give it back to him, and my mom said I can keep it."

"Okay... so why did you call me now?" asked Haze.

"I was wondering if you know any people who can look at it to see if it's worth anything,"

"Well, Ellen's uncle works in a pawn shop. So, maybe he will know," said Haze.

"Okay, I'll call Ellen today, thanks."

"No problem, I have to go, bye," said Haze.

"Bye," said Xavier. He lost grip on the Crystal. It fell to the ground. The Crystal lit up and a creature appeared out of it. The creature was completely made of fire. He looked at Xavier and said hello. Xavier was in shock. He didn't know what to do. Xavier came closer to the Crystal and touched it.

"Ow! My hand!" screamed Xavier

The creature laughed, "What do you think was going to happen?" "I'm made of fire."

"Well, yeah, I know. I was curious. It's not every day I see a fire thing coming out of a Crystal," said Xavier.

The creature smiled and said, "My name is Joshua."

"Nice to meet you," said Xavier. "My name is Xavier."

"Well, until next time, see you later," said the creature. Joshua went back into the Crystal. He bent down and scooped his new found item in his hands. "Well... that was weird."
