The Training

Training with Astrid was easier than I expected. I just had to throw barrels with targets on them for Stormfly, her Skystriker. The Striker shot spines at the targets and shot bulls eye every time.

Then it was my turn. She set up targets for Ambersky and me to shoot at. My Wickedwing did an amazing spiral, finishing with a spurt of flames that hit the groncle iron target. Then, I stood and slid down her wing expertly, careful to avoid the sharp barbs on her wings.

Ambersky did a lap around the training arena before landing next to me.

Astrid nodded.

"Impressive, but can you do this?" She asked,  placing an apple on her head before saying, "Stormfly, Spineshot."

A Striker spine shot through the apple, pinning to the stone wall.

"I would, but I don't have a Skystriker or a Steelslicer, so my dragon can't shoot spikes. However, if you have another apple..." I trailed off as Astrid handed me an apple.

I whistled a quick tune and tossed the apple into the air. Ambersky shot out a wing and slice the apple cleanly in half. I picked up a piece up and bit into it. Now Astrid really looked impressed.

"So, what do you call different dragons?" she asked me.

"Lets go on a fly, and I'll show you," I said, smiling.

"What do you call those?" Astrid asked, pointing to a group of quick-footed dragons with paralyzing barbs on their tails.

"Speedstingers," I replied.

She nodded, then said, "That's what we call them, too."

She pointed to a green dragon that then disappeared.

"And those?"

"Switchscales."

"We Berkians call them Changewings," she remarked, banking away from it. Ambersky and I followed.

"What are those?" she asked, pointing to the ocean, where a group of long-necked sea dragons were swimming towards the mainland.

"Scalding Shooters," I said.

"We call them Scaldrons," Astrid said.

She paused before asking, "What are they doing so close to the island?"

"I got this." I told her. "Follow me."

Ambersky and I dove towards them.
