Without looking up from my phone I knew who it was. His heavy footsteps alone were enough to identify him.
"So, what's got you looking glowing today? You pregnant?" My head shot up as I examined my brother.
I couldn't blame him his lack of a verbal filter. We had the same personality and way of thinking but I still was surprised.
"I was blessed in the looks department, get your prayers up." Tyson rolled his eyes as he sat in front of my desk opposite me. I watched as he flicked through the documents that he had brought in with him. He had a hard expression on his face and I could see that something was bothering him.
"What's on your mind, Ty?" I asked.
Tyson had a habit of overthinking things and making situations worse than they initially were. Due to his bipolar, he had found a way of controlling that aspect but recently his progress seemed to be reversing.
"Have you noticed how Erica has been towards me lately?" My eyebrows shot up, shocked by his sudden interest in her.
For years it was clear that Erica had developed feelings for my brother and only he was too distracted by other females to see it. Her annoyance with his blindness was becoming more and more clear as I'd noticed that she barely paid him any mind and half the time she would talk to him through me.
When they first became acquainted, after I hired her as one of the company's hair and makeup stylists, Tyson did what he usually does best which is flirt. He did it so often that I actually believed that one day he would finally settle down with Erica. I had concluded that maybe it was the memories of his past that stopped him from being open to wholeheartedly allow someone to love him. It also wasn't my place to notify Erica of his battles and previous experiences.
"You ever thought that Erica has feelings for you?" I inquired, my facial expression not changing. Tyson pursed his lips and sunk into deep thought for a few minutes.
"Nope."
"Damn, you really are blind." I sighed, leaning back into my chair.
"Look, if you're just going to insult me then -." He dramatically stood up from his chair ready to leave.
I thought that I was the drama queen.
"Oh, just sit down and listen for one minute." Tyson did as he was told purposely slamming his backside back onto the seat which he knew wasn't cheap. He was doing his usual tit-for-tat routine but I wasn't about to rise up to it.
"Remember the club?" Tyson nodded. "Why did you have a problem with the bartender flirting with her?"
"Because I know his type. He just wanted to fuck." He replied without hesitation.
"Just like how you treat many females out there? You intervened when another man showed interest in her so you're showing that you like her. Then the next minute you're hooking up with another bimbo. You're sending her mixed messages and you've been doing that a lot recently." I explained.
Tyson sat in silence for a few minutes deep in his own thoughts. I had my mental fingers crossed that he was going to make his feelings clear to Erica or stop playing with her emotions. As a female, it was very easy to become emotionally attached to someone and I know all about that.
Preach!
During the beginning of their friendship, Tyson honestly showed Erica what a true gentleman was and I believe that he was doing it subconsciously. Pulled out chairs, fixing her hair, complimenting her, encouraging her. All these things plus so much more. He was a genuine man and I was and will forever be proud to call him my brother.
