Tyson's body was now bent over the desk, his nosiness taking over him.
Was Shae already back in the country? Was the definitive end of our relationship going to be today? Knowing Shae, he would want a full essay of why I was done with him as if what he had put me through wasn't evidence enough.
"Nyla?" My body released itself from it's own grip and I looked up. Tyson let out a breath through his nostrils seeming as though he was attempting to collect his thoughts.
"I don't know what's really going on but it's clear that you're not happy with Shae." I opened my mouth to do my usual 'deny and assure' routine only nothing left my lips. "Remember, you're amazing and you should be treated like it. That's all that I'm going to say." Tyson repeated the words which I had told him and a smile etched itself on my face.
Tears began to build up in my eyes as it became clear to me that people wanted my happiness to be my priority. Instead of putting on a brave face all the time, it was okay not to be okay.
Shout out to Jessie J.
What mattered was how you took the steps forward to having a better life and being a better version of yourself.
Tyson held out his fist towards me which I bumped with my own then he gathered his belongings leaving me alone.
My phone rang again with a video call and I blinked back the tears and took a deep breath.
"Hey." Shae's clear face appeared on my screen. For a slight moment, I admired his handsome features then the thoughts of his personality blocked that out.
"You look shocked to hear from me."
"That's because I am. You haven't spoken to me since you've left."
"I know and there's a reason for that. You know that I've been working. For us."
For you, mate. I'm Gucci.
"You have a phone too in case you've forgotten." Shae threw in.
"I didn't want to be disappointed with the usual sound of your voicemail and no return calls." I admitted. That was partly the truth. The other truth was that I didn't want to talk to him. Shae was a certified mood ruiner.
Instead of replying, Shae just stared at me. His eyebrows furrowed and I could tell that he was holding back a lot. His real reaction was like a caged beast waiting to be unleashed. If he was right in front of me, I maybe would have found it intimidating. Since he wasn't, what could he really do through a phone screen?
"When will you be back?" I asked, ignoring his attempt at making me feel bad.
"It'll probably be another month. Things are moving along quicker than we thought."
"That's good."
Is it?
A small smile randomly appeared on his face.
"Listen, when you get back we need to talk." I admitted.
"About what?" Shae frowned.
"Us."
"Us? We're fine. We're in the best place that we've been in for a while. Unless you lied about wanting to try again." Shae's demeanor suddenly reverted back to hostile.
"I didn't lie."
At the time.
"Well, then we have nothing to discuss." Even being 3,000+ miles away, he still wanted to have a control over a simple conversation.
