"So, you're here by yourself?" A familiar man, who looked to be in his early 20's, came to stand next to me as I was at the bar.
If I was single, I would have definitely given him the time of day. Observing this tall man, I noticed that Shae had introduced him to the crowd as his close friend and business partner, Dave.
From when he walked into the bar, I could see and feel his eyes on me throughout the evening and I did my best to ignore it. He knew who I was and who I came with. Men like him are the reason why women have an automatic guard up. Dave's grey eyes bore into me as he sipped his dark liquor.
"You know that I'm not, Mr. Dave. Trying to start trouble with your best friend?" I asked raising my eyebrows.
"Not at all. Just wondering why Shae has left a beautiful woman like yourself all alone." I looked over the numerous people and spotted Shae socialising with a group of people. He must have said a hilarious joke because they all dramatically bent over, bellows of laughs echoed around them.
"Well, he's doing what you're supposed to be doing. It's not everyday that two young, black men celebrate 3 years of entrepreneurial success."
"That's true. Not really much to celebrate if you don't have a lady to celebrate with." His eyes never left my face as he said that.
"There's a healthy selection in here. Take your pick." I gestured to the many stunning women attempting to direct his flirting elsewhere.
I followed his gaze around the room and took in the chilled setting. Shae had rented out an entire bar to celebrate 3 years anniversary of his property development business. He also announced his partnership with Dave and an overview of his future plans.
The room was filled with Shae's many friends and previous investors. Conversation and the low beat of the music filled the room. I was introduced to various people but I soon trailed off alone as their conversations didn't interest me. No one who was used to lively parties would be comfortable in a room full of professional business people who only had politics to talk about. This was supposed to be a celebration not a news report. You would have thought that the females in here, who were obviously just plus ones, would have turned up the partying aspect slightly.
Maybe because they wanted to get their daily spending money or more than likely, some penis.
"There's no point." Dave turned his attention back to me. "All the good ones are taken."
Couldn't this man get a clue?
"Do you know when to give up?" I vocalised my thoughts.
"Is my charm working?" He took a step towards me of which I retreated from.
"Not in the slightest. Single or not, you seriously need to work on your charm. Ask Shae for a few pointers." I picked up my neglected drink taking a sip of the cream liqueur.
"Shae?" He scoffed.
"When did you two meet then?" If Shae wasn't going to enlighten me about at least one of his friends, I certainly wasn't going to let an opportunity like this one go. Dave took a swig of his drink, pulling a face probably due to it's alcohol percentage.
That was one thing that I never understood. Why drink a drink that burned your throat or that you couldn't handle? You can say that you liked it but your throat obviously couldn't tolerate it.
"We met in college by accident actually. A girl was seeing the both of us."
"So, you were the side piece?" I asked knowing that his ego would kick in.
