Opal started to speak, yet her words failed her, her emotions starting to take over as she choked on her words.
Rick stepped forward, putting a light hand on Carol's arm, "while they were in the woods, Sophia got bit. She didn't make it."
Dread was paved on her face as she fell to the ground, tears placing themselves in her eyes. She started to mumble little things about her daughter, how it was too soon for her and how it was Opal's fault.
Guilt started to weigh Opal down, she started to think about how it was her fault that the little girl was dead. She wasn't there in the world anymore because Opal couldn't protect her.
Daryl started to travel around the group, trying to get to Opal without being noticed by everyone in the group. He got to her side and looked to Glenn, silently telling him that he could take her.
Glenn nodded and let Opal lean on Daryl. Daryl's eyes looked at her pale face, "hey, you okay?"
Opal shrugged, her eyes drooping in tiredness, "yeah. They had to take blood to give to Carl."
Daryl nodded, "Do you need to go lie down?"
Opal shook her head, filled with drowsiness. "Is Quinn okay?"
Daryl nodded, looking up and quickly observing that Quinn's gaze was placed on Opal's pale face. "Yeah," He told.
"He's awake," Maggie spoke, stepping out of the house and rapidly making eye contact with Rick, who then hurried up the porch stairs and hustled into the room to see his son laying on the bed, his face paler than he'd ever seen it before.
It was heartbreaking, seeing his son lying on the bed, he sat on the chair that was closest to Carl. He didn't even pay mind to his wife as she sat on the other side of Carl, gripping his hand.
"Carl," Rick said, his voice light.
Carl's face was glowing, he had a smile on his face, as if he wasn't in as much pain as he had to be. "The deer, it was so beautiful." He told, looking to his mom who had tears in her eyes.
Outside of the bedroom, Opal's face was getting paler as everyone started to set up their things outside the house. She leaned against the pillar that was connected to the porch.
She opened her eyes fully as Daryl approached her, a worried look on his face. "You wanna still share a tent?" he asked.
Daryl's heartbeat at double the normal rate while he awaited Opal's reply. He'd never really asked anyone to 'hang out' or be roommates with. Usually nobody ever wanted to either.
Opal nodded, "sure. If I can nap in it," She joked.
Daryl chukled with joy. He nodded to Opal's request, "do you wanna nap now? It's all set up."
"Yes." Opal told, "if it's alright."
Daryl smiled, "OF course, come on, I'll guide you there." he told, reaching out a hand for her to grab.
Yet, before they were even off the porch, Rick exited the house, all eyes traveling to him. He paid no mind to the eyes, and walked up to oPal, "hey, Ope, Carl wasn't to talk to you."
Opal turned to Rock and nodded, shuffling over to him.
"You okay?" Rick asked as they got in the house, leaving Daryl outside.
The woman shrugged as they got into the room, Carl's smile not leaving since he woke up. "Hey, you alright?" Opal asked, hoping that he wasn't in much pain.
Carl nodded, "yeah, it just hurts." yet, even though he was in pain, his smile never faded.
"Well, you'll come out even stronger I bet." Opal assured, "nice hat, by the way," she mentioned.
Carl smiled and looked up at his new hat. It was his father's and he had just given it to his son, smiling as he embraced it. The child then started to explain the story of what had happened about five minutes ago.
Opal listented lightly, a delighted look on her face. Once he was finished with his story, Opal soon excused herself, her excuse being that she needed a nap and that Carl should too rest.
She exited the house and approached Glenn, who was leaning against a lone tree. "Hey, do you know where Daryl's tent is?" she asked, rubbing a hand over her tired face.
Glenn pointed to his left, where the rest of the tents were, "the farthest one down."
Opal nodded and yawned, "alright, thank you." She started to walk to the tent, getting slower and slower by the minute. When she finally approached the tent, Daryl wasn't to be seen near it at all. SHe climbed into the tent and a smile came onto her face as she saw what was in there.
Her bed was all set up, an extra blanket thanks to Daryl. She also now had a pillow, which was welcoming her. She almost fell to the ground as she laid down, her eyes instantly closing.
-
Opal opened her eyes after a long slumber, a yawn erupting from her system. She looked to her left, a messy bed on Daryl's side of the tent.
She sat up, an insignificant pain in her head. SLowly, she made her way out of the tent, thankfully, getting used to the pain quite quick. As she neared the group, smiles came on to their welcoming faces.
Carol soon approached her, an undetected smile on her face, "you're up!" she exclaimed. "You slept for around nineteen hours."
Opal nodded, sleepiness still in her system. She noticed how joyful Carol was, even though her daughter had died not even a week ago. Yet, Opal didn't question it. She knew that if she pressed into it, Carol definitely would not be as chirpy as she was currently.
Rick then approached the duo and as he did, Carol scurried away, "how'd ya sleep?"
Opal shrugged, "fine. How's Carl?" She asked, hoping that he was going to recover perfectly.
Rick smiled, "he's good. Lori's walking around with him so he can work out the soreness, they should be around here somewhere."
Opal grinned, glad to know that he was okay. "Great. Where's Daryl?"
"Out hunting with Quinn, turns out he's pretty good at getting squirrels." Rick told.
Opal chuckled, she could see Daryl getting annoyed by being sent to hunt and having an extra person with him. "He's gotta enjoy that, huh?"
Rick laughed, "most definitely."
"When do you believe that they're going to be back?" Opal questioned.
Rick looked over Opal's shoulder, seeing the hunting duo emerge from the forest. "They're just getting back now."
Opal smiled, excitement growing in her veins, she was ecstatic to see her friends again.
