swear to God that I loved her,

sorry that your mum found out,

guess that we just really had the thunder..."

SECRET LITTLE rendezvous, midnight driving with the windows down, singing along to a song on the radio, going places we can't pronounce-

"Maddie? You-hoo? Anyone in there?" my one and only friend Victoria worriedly stared at me, snapping her fingers in front of my face.

I flashed her a small smile and shook my head at myself.

"Yep! I'm here!" I quipped, waving my hands in her face to prove my point.

"You sure you're okay? That's the 3rd time in 10 minutes you've zoned out on me!" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"Yeah! I've got alot on my plate, so I'm just trying to wrap my brain around it all," I half lied, "what's going on?"

"Well, we've been standing in this ice cream line for 10 minutes, deciding what to get, and I think we're causing quite the line behind us."

I looked behind my shoulder and surely, there were about 15 people standing behind us, tapping their feet impatiently and shooting us dirty glares.

"Well dang," I mumbled under my breath, and shifted my attention to the menu above the slightly annoyed cashier, scanning it over quickly and settling on cookie dough.

You could never go wrong with cookie dough.

We paid for our orders and walked to our usual spot in the back of the deck, where the view overlooked all the pine trees of central park, and the sunset washed over the horizon.

I looked towards the distance, allowing my brain to relax itself and focus more on the way the ice cream melted perfectly on my tongue.

I continued to look out into the clear, until I felt a pair of eyes trained on me. I turned towards a worried looking Victoria, and raised an eyebrow.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, concern flooding me as I set down the cup of ice cream.

"I should be asking you that question," she retorted, "are you sure you're okay? You zone out every few minutes and stare towards the distance."

"Tori," I started, using her nickname, "I'm fine!" I stressed the word "fine", because I really was fine. My mind was just..occupied with other things.

"You're not fooling me, Mads," she leaned closer, crossing her right leg over her left, "I know you're lying."

I huffed out a breath, and turned back to the sunset, not meeting her gaze for a few minutes, silence stretching between us.
