"So, are you in?" he asked, his tone gentle, but the patience in his voice was slipping.
She took a moment to mull it over, and finally met his piercing blue eyes.
"Yes," she replied, with a shaky breath, and he let out a contented sigh.
"But unde...

"TABLE FIVE'S ready!" Aaron yelled from the counter, and shot me a questioning glance, asking me if I was okay.
I nodded, smiled back, and headed down the aisle to get the newly found family's order. From the back of the booth, to state the obvious, was a family of 5; a mother, father, a girl around the age of 6, and 2 twin boys, both no older than 4.
I reached into my apron locket for my notepad, and politely smiled at the 5, ready to take their order.
"Hi everyone, my name is Maddie and -" the father put his hand up to stop me, and it just then dawned on me that both he, and his wife were chatting away on their phones. Could they put their phones down long enough to order their food?
I nodded, and stood patiently, waiting. The girl looked up at me and smiled, and I gave her a small smile back. One of the twins, however, took it a little further than that.
"Your nose looks funny," he stated, and his sister elbowed him in the side.
My hand flew to my nose, and then I realized this comment was coming from a four-year old. A freaking four-year old. I smiled, nonetheless, and looked down at what seemed to be a coloring book.
"You like to draw?" I asked, squatting down to his level. I learned, very quickly, that you should never get close to a four year old holding crayons. Before I had time to react, a red crayon was catapulted directly towards my nose, which actually hit me right between the eyes.
I sprung to my feet, holding onto the side of the table to make sure I didn't fall over. I was currently seeing stars, and their parents carried on with their phone calls like they didn't see a thing.
The sad part? I don't think they even noticed the little hand-to-face encounter.
I opened my eyes and signaled Aaron over, motioning to the back to let her know I needed to take a minute to myself. I took fast strides until I reached the back of the restaurant, and allowed myself to stretch my legs.
It was Christmas Eve, and the diner was most definitely hustling with people walking in and out of the double doors. I agreed to work full shift- which I'm seriously regretting- since no one was home, and I had gotten the job 2 weeks ago.
I wanted to show the staff that I'm dependable and a hard-worker, not some flake. Zac pretty much stated that since we have the same schedule, he would drive us there, and take me back as well. I didn't complain, of course, it was a free ride after all.
