Bonus One Shot

AN: I have an update in the works but in the mean time I wanted to share with you the first ever Chicago Med fanfiction I wrote. It was over a year ago, and my writing has gotten a lot better. I also wrote this in a different POV then I normally do. Let me know if you enjoyed this, I have a few fanfics I've written that I haven't posted. If you like this I could start posting some of those...

Natalie Manning walks into the ED and Will Halstead catches up with her. "Hey Nat! How are you?" He asks. "Fine, I've got to go." She quickly replies. Will looks curiously at her as she hustles into the lounge. "Incoming!" Maggie shouts. They all prepare for the patient to be rolled in. Finally a streture is wheeled in  while a paramedic updates all the docs " 12 year old female fell off her bed and broke her arm." "Treatment 5!" Maggie shouts. They hustle into the room and Natalie says "Transfer!" They transfer the girl to the bed and hook her up to all the machines. "Call Ortho for her arm to be set." Natalie orders. "On it." April replies. After they get her settled in and her arm set they all go to other patients. That is except for Natalie. "Dr. Manning? Are you all right?" 4th year med student Sarah Reese asks. "Yeah" Natalie replies "I just have a bad feeling about today." Suddenly Helen (Natalie's mother in law) comes running in with Natalie's 2 month old soon. "Helen?!" Natalie asks. " He wouldn't fall asleep!" Helen wails. " Helen, that isn't an emergency. Just let him lay in the crib while you play some soothing music." Natalie replies. Helen agrees and walks out embarrassed. Natalie then turns around and goes to the lounge. Will, Sarah, and April all exchange looks of worry. "Nat? You okay?" Will asks as he walks in. "I'm FINE!" She shouts just as Sarah walks in. "Dr. Manning?" She asks. "What?" Natalie snaps back. "I have an update on your 12 year old patient. She is complaining of excruciating pain in her arm." Sarah responds. Natalie gets up and checks on her. She walks out a few minutes later after alleviating the pain. She walks up to where Maggie was standing in the nurses area. "Nat? Are you okay?" Maggie asks worridly. " No, my head is pounding me throat is very sore and scratchy, my chest is burning and i feel as if I'm going to throw up." She replies. "Come on then." Maggie says as she leads Natalie into the lounge. She orders her to lay here till she feels better. Natalie lays down and almost immediately falls asleep. When she wakes up Sarah is standing there looking at her and says "How are you doing? Maggie wanted me to check on you." " I'm fine" she replies as she stands up. Sarah nods and leaves the lounge. Just as she leaves Natalie clutches her head and sits back down. It just so happens that Will was coming into the lounge as she does this. "Nat? Are you sure your okay. Maggie wanted me to check and you don't look okay." He asks. "I'm fine I just need to get to my next patient." She replies and walks out the door. "Nat! How are you?" Maggie asks. "I'm ready for my next patient." Natalie replies. Maggie hands her the i pad with the information and directs her to the room. "Hello I'm Dr. Manning and I will be taking care off you. Now what seems to the the problem?" She says. "My knee is swollen!" The patient demands. Natalie starts looking at her knee when her head starts pounding and her vision goes all fuzzy. She stands up and clutches her head. "Are you ok?" The patient asks. Natalie is about to reply when she faints and collapses on the floor. Hearing a crash Sarah turns towards the room and sees Natalie collapsed on the floor. "Dr. Manning!" Sarah shouts and runs toward her. In the room Sarah tries to lift up Natalie but she can't. Then Natalie lets out a moan and looks at Sarah. "Help." She says before she starts moaning again. "Help! I need help in here!" Sarah shouts desprite for help. Maggie, April, and Will come running in and help Sarah lift her up. "We need a streture in here stat!" April shouts. Once in a room Maggie asks Natalie what happened. Natalie doesn't answer she just moans. Eventually Natalie faints once more. "Nat? How are you?" Maggie asks once she wakes up. "Terrible!" Natalie shouts. They run different tests on her until they finally figured out what was wrong. " Nat? We found out what's wrong." Will says " You have a severe case of pneumonia." Natalie just groans even more until she starts coughing uncontrollably. They move her into a Permanent  room in the hospital and give her some oxygen. She is also given medicine to try and cure the pneumonia. She has frequent visitors but never talks to any one of them. "Nat?" Will asks "Why won't you talk to any of us?" "It's hard" she replies " I fell just plain awful, I can barley speak and I dont like being waited on." " I understand how you feel." Will says " and Nat? Just so you know I love you." Before she can answer she faints and her heart rate slows down. Will pushes the code blue button and everyone comes rushing in to rececitate her. In one minute her heart rate returns to normal and she falls asleep. A day later Natalie wakes up only to find Sharon Goodwin at her bedside. "Ms. Goodwin?" She hoarsely asks. "Natalie I just wanted to let you know that all your patients will be cared for until your better." Sharon replies then walks out. Later when Maggie comes to check on her  Natalie says " I'm all better Maggie I can go back to work." "Oh really?" Maggie replies "get back in bed Nat. Nat, Your burning up with a fever!" She checks her temperature to find that it is at 105 degrees! "You aren't going anywhere for a while now. You need to lay here and rest." Maggie tells Natalie. "Fine I'll do it! Only for a day Maggie, I have patients I need to take care off!" She replies. Maggie agrees and leaves to take care of patients. Later that day Natalie is still laying in bed when Will runs into Natalie's room and says "Nat? How are you?" He quickly asks. "Fine. Everyone is just being overly cautious because its me." Natalie replies. "Great! Cause the ED is very busy and we need extra hands!" Will says. Natalie quickly gets up and throws on her scrubs, and pulls her hair in a ponytail. Will leaves and says he will meet her done there. Natalie takes a little longer to get ready because she starts to get very dizzy. Once she recovers she rushes down to the ED. Once she arrives Maggie starts yelling at her for getting out of bed. Once Will explains Maggie stops yelling. "You better get straight in bed after this!" Maggie tells her. Suddenly 3
young kids are pushed in on a streture each one had an arm all bloody and cut up. When they get them into a room they start treating their arms. Natalie starts treating the youngest girl who was 5 years old. While disinfecting the girl's arm Natalie starts to cough a lot. "Are you ok doctor lady?" The little girl asks. Natalie nods while she still coughs. It just so happens that Sarah was walking by as she was coughing. "Dr.Manning, you go rest I'll take care of her." Sarah says. Natalie agrees and leaves the room. "Nat! Go lay in your room now! You over exerted yourself." Maggie tells her. Surprisingly Natalie agrees and lays in her bed. A few hours later while Natalie is reading a book, the little girl comes into her room. "Are you ok?" She asks. "Oh, hi, I'm fine. What are you doing up here?" Natalie asks. "I wanted to talk to you. I have some questions. First, I thought doctors don't get sick. Second, do you want to adopt me? Oh by the way my name is Ellie." Ellie says. "Well, Ellie, doctors do get sick. And maybe sweetie, you have grown on me. Why do you want me to?" Natalie asks. Ellie then explains that both of her parents died and she has been in foster care for 4 1/2 years! Once she leaves Natalie starts coughing really really hard. "MAGGIE!!" She screams. A minute later Maggie, April, and Will come running up. "What? What's wrong?!" They all ask in unison. "I.. I can barley breathe! And (cough cough) can't stop coughing and it really hurts!" Natalie replies. They start looking and Will decides to do an MRI to see what's wrong. "Nat, this shows you have mucus stuck in your bronchi and in your throat. All you need is medicine and you should be all set." Will says. "Great, thanks Will." Natalie responds. A few days later Will comes to check on Natalie. "How are you Nat?" He asks. "I guess I'm fine, I mean my chest still burns and I'm still coughing." She replies. He then walks out of her room and goes to the ED. Natalie is laying in her room when she starts coughing really hard and uncontrollably. While she coughing she feels something wet on her arm, she looks down and sees blood on her arm. She gets a tissue and coughs into that and sees blood again! "WILL, MAGGIE HELP!!!" She screams. A few minutes later they come running into her room. "Nat, what's wrong?" They both ask. "I'm coughing up blood!" She responds. Will then quickly starts trying to find the source. He finally concludes they need another MRI to know what's wrong. He takes the MRI and immediately sees the problem. "Nat, you have a tear in your right lung. We need to do surgery in order to fix that." Will says. They take Natalie back into surgery and they come out about an hour later. They tell Maggie everything went fine. When Natalie wakes up she says "I feel so much better (cough cough)." "Good, you should feel all better in about a week." Will says. During the week Maggie, Sarah, and Will check on Natalie a lot. Then one day Natalie feels almost all better. She gets up and gets ready to go down to the ED. When she gets down Maggie asks "how are you?" "Almost all better I just have a cough (cough cough)." She replies. Suddenly Sharon Goodwin (head of the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center) comes up to Natalie and says "The young girl who was in your care would like me to tell you she will miss you and she finally got adopted. And I hope you are feeling much better." Natalie says thank you and goes on with her work. "Incoming!" Maggie shouts. And Natalie runs to help as she's been waiting to do for a while.
