***Eric's POV***
The Erudite car pulls up into the main area of Amity, and my eyes are immediately scanning the crowd for my familiar redhead. there are a couple redheads running about, but none strike me like the way Arielle did, does.
"Eric, stay here. They may be sneaking around." Max tells me as I go to walk into the Amity greenhouse with the rest of the Dauntless and the Erudite. I give him a nod, and we both take a seat back in the front seat of one of the cars.
"She's not going to be here. I missed her again." I mutter to myself, continuing to extensively analyze the crowd.
"Don't say that yet. For all you know, she's walked past us already. I know you didn't volunteer for this because Jeanine wanted the two Stiffs." Max says, and all I do is gulp, unsure of what to say. "You came for her, and I don't blame you. But whose side is she really on, Eric? She chose to run away, and hasn't looked back. I would leave her be, Eric. She doesn't want to be found for a reason, she ran for a reason. Why are you doing this? You're causing more pain and trouble for the both of you."
"If she didn't leave the safety I had for her in Dauntless this wouldn't be happening. She would have the baby in a safe place, and now, because she has slipped through my fingers, she will be having my fucking baby on the side of the road in the middle of fucking nowhere. She left me, Max, with my baby. And I'm not fucking okay with that. She may have left me, but I still love her, no matter how much I don't want to." I sneer half-heartedly. Max doesn't respond, he just nods his head and resumes looking through the crowd.
We sit in the car in silence for a long while, awaiting word from our fellow Dauntless inside the Amity compound.
Not even ten minutes later, the group we are looking for goes running out the front of the Amity meeting place, towards the woods, and eventually, the train tracks.
"Max, there they are!" I shout, and just as I am about to take off after them, I realize Arielle isn't with them. "Arielle isn't with them, I'm staying back." I tell Max, and he nods in understanding. I jump out of the car, and Max throws the car into drive, taking off after them. I get another car, and I turn it towards the Amity meeting place, waiting for Arielle to come out, and make a run for it. Three Dauntless and a couple Erudite are facing the doors, all with guns in hand. I step out of the car, ready to storm the compound, but Arielle and Uriah walk out the front doors, with Uriah heavily supporting my very-pregnant fain-girlfriend. The ring around my neck burns, once again.
I waste no time ripping Arielle from Uriah's grasp, and I wave my hand to the Dauntless, signalling I want Uriah dead, but Arielle's screams make me change my mind, unfortunately.
"Cuff him. We won't kill him yet. Jeanine might have some plans for him." I tell them, and I begin pulling Arielle towards one of the cars, but within two steps, she is doubling over, groaning. As much as I want to help her, comfort her, I can't bring myself to care at that moment. And besides, the baby isn't even due yet... right? "The baby isn't due yet..." I mutter in annoyance, but in return I get one of the coldest glares I have ever gotten from Arielle.
"Yeah, well she has a mind like her dad and will come whenever she damn well pleases. This baby is coming tonight, so unless you want me having our baby in an Amity field, you better get me to a doctor quick. And Uriah will be in the room with me, whether you like it or not." She spits, and I am so fucking livid that it is beyond words.
"You have no room to make demands! You fucking left me, so don't even think you can give me directions. That is my baby, not his, so he will be nowhere near it." I spit. The thought of another man anywhere near my baby is not something I am okay with, and Arielle will not make any demands to me. She lost that right when she left.
