"Mike, have fun in fifth grade. Don't cause your teachers trouble. Lilly, have fun in preschool. Love you both. Grayson, drive safely, or I will kill you before the crash can." I kiss Mike and Lilly's head.
"Oh, so I don't get a kiss on the head?" Grayson pouts.
I roll my eyes and kiss his forehead. "Now go. I've gotta take care of the crazy twins."
"They're already a month old."
"You're already a minute late. Go!" I shove Grayson out the door and Mike and Lilly follow him out.
As I fall back on the couch, one of the twins burst out in tears. I yell in frustration, causing both of them to cry. I groan and run up to their room.
"I hate you guys sometimes. Just like how I hate your father sometimes." Since I'm so short and the crib is unreasonably big, I guess the guy who invited twin sized cribs was a lonely man, I crawl in with them.
"Shhhh, please? For mommy? I've had a headache constantly ever since you little angels were born."
"This worked for Mike, it better work for you too." I pick up my phone and call Grayson. I put him on speaker and set the phone down between Ethan and Emma.
"Bye Lilly, love you too." I hear the car engine start. "Who is this?"
"The twins need to sleep."
"Haha, I've always been the better parent. What worked for Mike again?"
"Talking about our wedding day."
"Ah, alright. It was a very sunshiny morning, but around noon, an hour before the wedding was to start, rain poured down with no mercy. Your uncle Luke had so much gel in his hair, the dressing room for the groom, which I called the dressing groom, smelled like it."
The twins become quiet, but Grayson continues.
"I was going crazy with nerves. Your mommy had just gotten pregnant, so we had to whip up the wedding as soon as we could, and we were only seniors in college. I had walked down the isle, hiding back my shaking. Uncle Tonan's daughter, or your cousin Eva, had been the flower girl. I almost cried when I saw your mother, in her white dress. She looked so so so so beautiful, I was amazed."
I lie down next to the twins and close my eyes.
"It was the best kiss I had ever shared with your mommy. We both had tears in our eyes, both of our bodies shaking of nerves. But it was perfect."
The phone turns off, but I'm too tired, wanting badly to take a nap. I feel a large familiar hand run through my hair and a smile spreads on my face.
"I love you, Jackie."
"I know, Grayson. I know."
His dorky chuckle is the last I hear before falling asleep.
