My Princess (Luke Kennard)

   Luke smiles down at me and the newborn baby girl I hold in my arms. "What should we name her?" He asks.

   "Ummm... how about Delanie?"

   "Delanie Kennard. It's fit for a princess."

   "Agreed. Do you want to hold her?"

   Luke eagerly nods and I carefully hand her to him. His smile grows as he holds her. Delanie reaches up and places her tiny hand on his nose, causing tears to gather in his eyes.

   "Hey," he says, voice cracking, "I'm your daddy. Me and your weird mommy are gonna take care of you. We're going to give you the best life that we can."

   I smile at them, then Laura runs into the room. "Where's my niece?!"

   Luke laughs and nods his head towards Delanie. "Where's mom and dad?"

   "Their flight got delayed. They should be here by tomorrow though."

   He nods and hands Delanie to Laura. "Awww! Hi there! You've got the worst dad in the wholeeee world."

   "Rude."

   "What's her name?"

   "Delanie Rose Kennard."

   "Aw. She's going to grow up and break all of the boys hearts."

   "And I'm going to kill the boys if they hurt her."

   "Look at you," I say, "already being protective."

   "What can I say? She's my girl."

   "Your girl?"

   "My princess."
