"Hello, Kirstin."
"Hello, Director."
"Basically, an office ordered a new coffee machine and Devin Myer opened it. Long story short, he's dead and we don't know why."
"Any other details?"
"Nope. I'm not at the crime scene, though. I'll text you the address, as always."
"I'll tell my team, as always."
---
"Guess what," I begin, walking out into where The Special Agents are, "case."
"Seriously?" Scott exclaims in excitement standing up. They're all getting quite bored of paperwork, considering we haven't done anything in like five days.
"Yep. Devin Myer opened a new coffee machine and dropped dead."
"Where at?" Avi asks, grabbing his bag.
"Office building," I reply, not bothering to check the text that I know is the address Esther gave me.
"So, no bullet hole or anything?" Mitch asks.
"Not that I know of. When Esther called, she said she wasn't at the crime scene."
"Makes my job less gory," Kevin comments.
Once we arrive at the building, we're greeted by police officers outside as usual. Scott goes up to one of them to ask the floor and returns to me with the answer. 14. We take the stairs considering they shut down the elevator since it's a crime scene.
Let me tell you, I'm out of shape. And so is Mitch, as it seems.
Once we get to 14, Scott, Avi, and Kevin don't even seem to have a quickened heart rate.
Another police officer shows us to the body, and sure enough, a dead man lays on the floor near the receptionists table. Which, I presume, is where he decided to open the box.
Scott and Mitch commence to taking pictures of the crime scene, and afterwards I go over to the coffee maker.
"Don't touch that until I get some idea of cause of death."
"TOD?" I ask, taking a step back.
"8-9 this morning, which sounds about right."
"Could've come into the office and the receptionist tells him he has a package. He opens it, and bam, dead," Avi mumbles, looking around.
"Assuming the coffee machine killed him."
"Yes, assuming that."
"What's his name, again?" Mitch asks from one of the cubicles.
"Devin Myer."
"Found his desk."
I walk over to wear Mitch is standing with Avi on my tail. When I get there, I see Devin's desk. Perfectly organized with a few decorations to indicate it's his, along with a name plate. A double monitor is centered in the middle.
"No family?" Scott asks.
"Doesn't seem like a serious girlfriend or kids," Avi responds.
"We'll need to talk to the parents, I guess. Have you found them, Mitch?" I question, turning to Mitch with his work phone in hand.
"Shellie and Leon Myer."
"Shellie? What a mom name," Scott snorts.
"Shelly is my mom's name," Avi asserts.
"Not that it's a bad name," Scott says quickly, looking up from his notepad.
"Sure," Avi smirks.
