"Kirstin?"

"Esther Koop?"

"Hi, I have a dead body."

"Cool, I have a team to investigate that dead body."

"Fun. It's already at the lab by the way."

"Wh-"

"I'm busy, talk later, five million things to do, bye."

---

"What was that?" Avi asks from across the couch. Kevin, Avi, and I all got home from work around two hours ago, so we made dinner and made it into a movie night. It wasn't uncommon to have a murder right around the end of the day, albeit strange the body is at the lab already.

"Dead body, I guess? Esther was busy so she'll talk to us when we get there. Hey, you wanna call Scott and Mitch?"

"I got you," Kevin announces, pulling his phone off of the coffee table in front of the couch. The first thing I ended up doing when I got home was changing into sweatpants and an old T-Shirt from college. The boys, however, stayed in their work attire, making me the only one to have to change.

After I get ready and reapply some makeup, we leave the house. We take our time going to the building, even stopping at McDonald's so we have supplies for late night snacks. If the body is already at the lab, there's no crime scene to investigate for whatever reason.

Once we do pull up at the building, Esther is hurriedly walking in from her car, beating us by a couple seconds. "You okay?" I ask the stressed-looking director.

"Yes and no. Yes, as in everything is good in the scheme of things, no, as in I'm dealing with this angry attorney on the phone, well I was, about some case that some team "screwed" up on, even though they didn't. It doesn't concern you, so don't worry, I just have to prove him wrong, and he won't leave me alone."

I nod in agreement, heading straight to my desk as I get in the building, "Fries?" I offer, holding out 1 of the 10 large fries we bought. Two for each of us, can you blame us? They're amazing.

She shakes her head no and leads the way to the lab.

"Follow me, I have attornies to deal with so we better make this quick."

"Scott and Mitch?" Asks Kevin.

"Explain it to them when they get here."

She presses the button to the basement and down we go.

"Basically, the body was found in an alleyway and was moved by police."

"What? So they contaminated the crime scene?"

"Not only did they contaminate it, they put the dead body in the trunk and drove it here."

"You have got to be kidding me. First suspects, I guess," Avi mumbles, "did they say what alleyway?"

"I wasn't here when they delivered the body! They dropped it off because they're able to get in because, you know, police," Esther exclaims as she walks into the lab with us in tail.

"Isn't one of the first things police officers are taught is to never touch a crime scene?"

"It was their first day on the job."

"They didn't have anyone to supervise them? A veteran police officer or whatever?"

"The two were both new, and the station just got a ton of new police officers in because corporate decided to lay off a ton of old ones because a few new people got promoted because of a few retirements or transfers. Of course, because they were laid off, they can't supervise newbies. They had most newbies supervised, but the ones they didn't have supervisors for were stuck together and told not to be stupid."
