"I've got kind of a strange case today."
"How so?"
"Did you watch the Oscars last night?"
"Of course I did who doesn't w-"
"Me. Anyways, Guillermo del Toro was found dead twenty minutes ago."
"Cause of death?"
"Blunt force trauma to the skull. Or a gunshot. Either one."
"So, you're telling me a famous director just randomly got shot?"
"I am."
"I'll tell my team."
"Wait, Kirst."
"Yeah?"
"Probably best to keep this under wraps for now."
"Probably."

"What?" Avi asks me, looking over at me quite alarmed.
"Uh, you know Guillermo del Toro?"
"No?"
"Famous director? Won best director or something last night."
"Oh, him? What's up?"
"Well, he's dead."
"You have to be joking."
"Nope."
"We got assigned to a celebrity's death?"
"We did," I sigh, pulling my car out of the parking lot.
"We're so going to be bombarded with press," Avi sighs, checking his phone.
"Is it out yet?"
"Nothing that I can tell. Do you know anything?"
"Blunt force trauma or gunshot to the head, as it sounds."

Avi and I pull up the address she gave me, which happens to be an expensive apartment that more celebrities live in.
"Imagine if we were this rich," he laughs.
"Looks like Scott and Mitch beat us, yet again," I comment absentmindedly.
We both head out of the car and walk up to Esther.
"Good morning, where's Kev?"
"Didn't come with us."
"Ah."
"I'd assume he thought he wouldn't have to do anything first thing in the morning. Have you called him?"
"I did, you called Scott and Mitch?"
"I did. We'll wait for them then we can go. So far we're the only law enforcement here."
"Not even police officers?"
"We can't have word of this getting out, Kirstie."
"Right. Oscar winner. Have you located the other nominees? Right away that strikes me as a good motive," I reply, looking up at Esther.
