"Hey, Kirst."
"Don't tell me a murder."
"It's not, actually. I need you and your team to stay after work today a little. Just a cold case. Nothing major."
"Sounds good, as long as nothing interrupts my day. It's one of those paperwork days, yesterday's case was too complicated."
"Agreed. Lots of moving parts."
"Bye Esther."
"Sorry I'm just trying to have a friend, okay?"
"Sorry I'm just trying to get to work on time."

"Kirstie we should talk about last night," Avi comments as I walk out of the bathroom from my shower.
"Not happening."
"We need to talk."
"About what?" Kevin asks.
"Nothing," we reply simultaneously.
After Kevin steps into the bathroom for his shower, Avi follows me to my bedroom to grab clothes, considering I'm still in my pajamas.
"I can drive you to work today?"
"I'd rather you don't."
"Are you mad?"
"Nope."
"You're uncomfortable."
"Am not."
"You're avoiding me."
"Am not."
"Kirstin, this is awkward. I'm trying to not make it awkward."
"It'll be even more awkward if you don't get out of my room so I can change."
"We need to talk at some point!" He days from outside the door.
"Talk about what?"
I hear him huff in annoyance from the kitchen.
———
"What's wrong, Scotty?" I ask, walking into the office to see a visibly upset and mad Scott.
"I have this boyfriend!"
"Alex?"
"Yes, Alex, and he broke up with me!" He almost shouts, definitely not as sad as he is mad.
"Aw, I'm sorry to hear that."
"That's not it!"
"I'm listening," I smile, setting my stuff down in my office.
"He freaking broke up with me because I didn't see him enough! Sorry I wasn't having sex with you but I was out solving murders!"
I leave him at his desk to pout when Avi walks in after me, asking Scott what was wrong as well.
"Kirstie can explain it."
"No I can't!"
"She's avoiding me," Avi explains.
