The Special Agents

Joseph Thomas

"Hey, Krispy Kreme Donut."

"Director?"

"What? Those things are delicious."

"I've never had one."

"What?!"

"Do you need something? It's Sunday, my one day off."

"There's a case."

"What's the case?"

"Stabbing? I'm not quite sure, to be honest. Joseph Thomas was found thirty nine minutes ago in his living room at 2859 Hall Valley Street."

"I'll get the guys."

With a sigh, I set my phone down on the couch next to me. I glance over at Avi in a chair across from the couch, and Kevin in the kitchen.

"Don't tell me.." Kevin begins.

"We haven't had a day off in like three weeks!"

"Tell that to the murderers. Joseph Thomas died of a stabbing and was found about 40 minutes ago at 2859 Hall Valley Street."

"Is that all?"

"You know as much as me, Kevin."

With that, the boys head to get ready while I call Scott and Mitch.

"We haven't had a day off in weeks!" Mitch complains from somewhere else in the room. Scott must be on speaker phone.

"You have overtime?"

"Like, three days of it."

"Three days could be a decent vacation."

"No it couldn't. Mitch and I will be there in what, twenty minutes?"

"Twenty minutes," I hear Mitch confirm from what sounds like the kitchen, due to the dishes clanking around.

Once Kevin, Avi, and I are all ready, we head out of the house together. I, of course, take my own car while Kevin and Avi take Avi's car.

"Special Agent Maldonado?" A police officer asks me when I step out of my car.

"Yes?"

"Director Koop told me to show you Scott Perez. He found the body."

"Alrighty."

I'm lead over to a petite looking man, who is in fact quite the opposite of my Scott.

"Scott Perez? You found the body, correct?" I ask after introducing myself.

"I did," he replies, looking quite terrified. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Avi coming over to me while Scott, Mitch, and Kevin all head into the house.

"This is Special Agent Kaplan, my partner. Can you recount all of what happened?" I ask when Avi finally gets to us.

"Well, Joseph and I are- were dating. He gave me the key to his house so I could come in whenever I wanted. I just wanted to see him this morning, and-" with that, he breaks down crying. Avi awkwardly side steps over and pats him on the back, glaring at me the whole time. I get to take notes while he deals with crying boyfriends.

"It's okay, I think we have enough for now, anyways. You can go home, if you'd like. Do you by any chance have Joseph's parents addresses?"

"Uh, no. They disowned him when he came out.."

"Avi glares at me more. This is going to make the investigation interesting."

"So, they might've had motive?"
