The kid hands me a wad of cash and I quickly unroll it and count the bills. I roll them back up and slip them in my pocket before glancing around even though I know no one else is here. My eyes hesitate on the corner of the building just to be safe. No one is there. I reach into the pocket that doesn't have the cash and pull out the kid's coke. He snatches it quickly and slips it easily into his backpack. He then swings his bag over his shoulder and walks out from behind the building. I wait a full two minutes before following him out.
I twist my rings out of habit, showing them to anyone who may think of jumping me for the cash. I'm so caught up in making sure no one knows about the deal that I almost run over Kayla, who jumps quickly to the side.
"Whoa there, Pretty Boy." I look down at her.
"Kayla?" I ask stupidly.
"Who else?" she retorts. I glance around her expecting Lynnara to be on her heels. Surprisingly, the other girl is nowhere to be found and we are the only two people this far back in the corner of campus. Her eyes flick to the pocket of my pants now filled with cash, but the movement is so quick she could have been blinking. She looks at my hands, which are still fiddling with the rings. "These are neat," she mutters.
"Yeah," I force out. She grabs my hand and spreads out my fingers clearly finding nothing strange about practically holding my hand. She examines the rings though they're nothing fancy. Just some pieces of metal meant to draw blood. She then drops my hand and looks up at me.
"So where to?"
"I'm going to find the guys."
"Cool." And as I begin to walk she's close on my heels, even with her much shorter legs. I sigh, already knowing how this ends. I find the guys circling our car in the back lot. While they aren't surprised to see me they do start when they notice Kayla following close behind. Their conversation stopping abruptly.
"Hey," she says. The guys nod at her in greeting but don't say much else. "You guys are great conversationalists."
"Yeah well," Jax mutters trailing off and not helping his case. She sighs dramatically.
"Wait here, I'll be right back." Kayla then turns and leaves the back lot, heading for the front of the school. I don't even question it.
"Can we run?" asks Jax.
"I don't think we'd make it. That girl is a crazy leech," Bash answers.
"You know I think I see it," Ryder adds. But none of seem to find the motivation to actually flee before Kayla returns with Lynnara in tow.
"Okay I'm back, where was I going with this again?"
"You were going to say you were hopelessly in love with me and would gladly let me fly you to cloud nine," Dominic says. Kayla wrinkles her nose.
"I don't think so," she trails off.
"It was worth a shot."
"Oh, I got it! What are we starting with?"
"For what?"
"The list, Mini Nic. What else?" He frowns at the nickname and the rest of us can't help but snicker quietly.
"Did you really expect us to memorize it?" Jax asks.
"You should have," Kayla grumbles. But she pulls out the list, from the back pocket of her black ripped skinny jeans anyways. She holds the paper out and Dominic snatches it before the rest of us even blink.
"Well we want to start simple," he trails off reading the list.
"I guess," Kayla shrugs.
"I really wish you wouldn't," Lynnara voices but Kayla only rolls her eyes like she's heard this speech before. Dominic smirks.
