A tangled mess of limbs is all we are. I ease my eyes open to the light. We never bothered to turn it off. I tighten my arms around Kayla. She stirs but doesn't wake, seemingly content to remain curled up on my chest. Her legs thread themselves through mine. She smells like skin and sweat. I could spend a lifetime here inhaling that scent off her skin. I kiss her hair softly and watch her lips twitch upwards in response.
"Morning, Danny," she mumbles with her eyes still closed and her cheek pressed against my skin. I grin.
"Morning, La La," I whisper. She nuzzles her face against me. Then she shifts, rolling onto her stomach, still without clothes from the last night. I can't stop the smirk that slides onto my face as she rests her chin on her hands.
"Hi," she says softly.
"Hi," I answer, still smirking. She doesn't say anything for a minute and I let her stare at me.
"This is how it was supposed to be," she tells me.
"Oh yeah?" Kayla nods.
"Yeah. Just like this. No one else."
"What do you mean, Sweetheart?" I ask softly, my fingers reaching out to trail down her face.
"For the list. I wanted it to be you since you kicked over the barstool when Mini Nic kissed me. Your name is written next to 'lose my virginity' on the list." I stare at her feeling my heart break. "I wrote it there after that first night in the bar."
"Why?"
"You understood. I didn't have to say anything and you understood what I needed. If I was gonna chose anyone, it would be you."
"I knew who you were, La La." She presses her lips together.
"You knew who I was. You didn't know me. But it was enough." I ease an arm off of her and place my finger beneath her chin. I drag her lips to mine, meeting them softly.
"I kicked the stool because Dominic pissed me off," I whisper. She laughs and presses her lips against my cheek.
"You gave me a way out of the kiss, regardless of the reason. And you took the seat he wanted at the bar."
"You knew how to play darts," I retort.
"Yeah." Kayla lays her head back on my chest. Her fingers move across my skin, tracing idle patterns. "I wanna stay here all the time," she says. My lips twitch.
"What about food?"
"It's overrated."
"Coco Puffs?" I challenge raising an eyebrow. She hums.
"You're better than every name brand cereal."
"That might be the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
"I should hope so." She rolls her face into my chest. "Danny, don't leave."
"I'm not going anywhere, La La."
"No, ever. Don't leave ever. Don't give me up again. Please." I wrap both of my arms around her, squeezing tightly.
"I'm not," I whisper. "I'm not." Her lips press against my chest. I repeat those same two words, over and over as she kisses her way up to my lips, hovering above my skin. She stays just close enough for me to taste her air. I take her lips with mine, kissing her gently. She pulls back resting her forehead against mine. I close my eyes and let my fingers traces her face.
"Coco Puffs?" she whispers. I open my eyes and smile.
"Coco Puffs." Kayla rolls off of me and stands up. She doesn't bother with blankets or sheets to hide herself from me. I sit up and drink her in. I don't even try to tear my eyes away. She finds her underwear on the floor and my t-shirt. But she does nothing to fix her wild hair or slightly smudged makeup. I've never seen anything more beautiful. Kayla raises an eyebrow at me. "What?" she murmurs cocking her head to the right.
