The armor is back. Kayla stands with her arms crossed in front of her in the middle of the gas station parking lot. She stares at the five of us for a few seconds Then looks over to the glass window of the store and back at us."Okay well, how do you guys normally score booze?" she asks. Dominic throws an arm around her shoulders. Kayla flinches and my head replays her gasping on the ground less than a week ago. But she breathes and stays put. Her eyes fall blank.
"Normally, we flirt with the cute cashier," he answers.
"Right. And as you can see, by looking creepily through the window like we are, she's currently not working," Jax continues. We all look through the window again to stare directly at the dude behind the register who doesn't notice a thing. I turn back to Kayla and raise an eyebrow, she meets my eyes and shrugs Dominic's arm off to square her shoulders.
"I'll do it," she states. I gag and start choking on my own tongue. She raises an eyebrow at me.
"Alright there, Pretty Boy?" I wave her off, mildly annoyed at the nickname once again, but far more concerned with what her statement means. "I mean it though. He's a guy, I'm a girl. There's a decent enough chance he's straight, bisexual, or any number of sexualities involving him being interested in a girl like me.
"I don't know, Kay..." Ryder trails off. I manage to recover.
"Are you doubting my skills of seduction, Ry-Ry?" I force back another cough and make a strangled choking noise. Kayla's eyes flick to me.
"No. Well, I mean-" Ryder stops, loosing his argument too quickly. Kayla smirks and starts to tousle her hair. The she tugs her tank top down lower, exposing most of her chest. Every one of the guys drop their eyes to her display of skin. My eyes join them, before I pinch my leg through the pocket of my jeans and snap them back up. Kayla digs around in her tiny black purse and pulls out a small black tube. She uncaps it to reveal that cherry red lipstick she seems to love. Then she pull out her phone and applies the color to her lips.
"Red lipstick, really?" I scoff, annoyed for no particular reason.
"It's like a sex magnet."
"It's like a pathetic version of a devil Halloween costume," I mock.
"But I turns you on, and you can't deny it," she argues. I open my mouth and close it. She does look like the kind of girl I wouldn't think twice about hooking up with. "Now here's how this is gonna go. I'll walk in first, and you guys will follow me after the door closes."
"Why?" Bash questions, sounding only slightly distant.
"Because I'm proving my seduction skills. So as I was saying, you walk in after me and I wait until you are in before I make any moves. Then I crank it up to a solid thirteen, seduce the heck out of the money guy, and make my grand, mysterious getaway. And you guys have to buy something normal once I'm gone, so he doesn't realize we're together. And then we all run off into the sunset... with booze in our hands."
"That sounds great and all, but what if it doesn't work?" Jax asks.
Kayla flashes him a million dollar smile. "You underestimate the power of a woman who knows exactly what she's doing," Kayla answers. Dominic smirks.
"Alright, deal. Impress me," Jax challenges. She nods and messes up her hair some more. Then she bites her lip and turns around. We watch as she walks to the door and inside the building and then we follow suit. The five of us slip into a random aisle with a good view of the register. Kayla comes out of nowhere, strutting past us. The guy at the register glances up at the movement, then looks back down. He snaps his eyes right back up. Kayla looks to the side at some items and smiles, like she knows she has his undivided attention. But she has yet to bat an eye in his direction.
