I reach out and run my fingers along her face. Her lips twitch but she still looks impossibly heartbroken.

"We should go," she whispers.

"Five more minutes?" I answer. She nods and ducks her head. I scoot closer to her on the bed. My fingers slip beneath her chin and tilt her face up. "It's gonna be okay," I tell her.

"Why is it hard?" I do my best to offer her a half smile.

"I don't know, La La."

"I've always wanted to leave before. But this time it's different. It's actually....home." I press my lips to her forehead. She nestles herself against me. I sigh softly.

"We could stay," I offer, knowing I don't mean it.

"That's a lie."

"Yeah," I answer. We lay there in the bed for a few more minutes until Kayla pushes herself away from me and stands up.

"We should go," she repeats. I stand up, leaving the sheets a mess on the bed, and track Kayla as she walks over to her blue duffle bag in the middle of the floor. She shoves the stuffed cat inside and jams the zipper closed. Then she swings the bag over her shoulder and grabs my  black backpack. She holds it out to me, so I shove my hair back and step forward. I take the bag and sling it over my shoulder, adjusting the strap over my leather jacket. Kayla looks around the room one last time, then she tilts her head back to look at me. In the next second, she barrels into me. She slips her arms around my torso and shoves her face into my chest. I wrap my arms around her and squeeze. Kayla backs up quickly. I watch her set her shoulders then turn towards the door. She walks out without looking back.

I head to my bed. I bend down and tug out the shoe boxes. I set all three on my bed and open them. I leave the drugs alone but find my rings and slides them onto my fingers. I finger the cash knowing we could use it and that Jax would have to pay it back somehow. I release the bills and back away. But I leave the boxes open on the bed. I walk away, leaving behind my bedroom as I head down the hall towards Kayla at the end of the hall.

"La La?" I call quietly. "You aren't forgetting anything, right?"

"Pretty Boy," she answers. My blood runs cold. How are we gonna get out?

"La La?" echoes another voice. I step up beside Kayla and sure enough Dominic stands in the middle of the kitchen, staring at Kayla.

"Dominic," I mange. His eyes flick across us and our bags.

"We were just-" Kayla starts. Dominic doesn't let her finish.

"You know each other." His eyes remain lower than our faces. I glance down to find Kayla's hands clasped tightly in front of her. I reach over and ease my hand between hers. She squeezes back gratefully.

"Mini Nic," Kayla says slowly. He looks back at the duffle bag hanging from Kayla's shoulder.

"I've been asleep for hours," he says.

"What?" Kayla asks. I just stare in silence.

"I came back completely wasted and crashed. You must've left sometime in the middle of the night." I raise my eyebrows and glance a Kayla. She smiles softly at him.

"Mini Nic I-"

"Go. Get out while you can." Kayla frees her hand from mine. And I watch her walk toward Dominic. She steps closer and throws her arms around him. I watch him stiffen and close his eyes. I hear Kayla murmur something unintelligible to me and he wraps his arms around her, tugging her closer to him still. Then Kayla shifts her weight to her other foot and Dominic lets go. She backs up then turns towards me to take my hand again. We walk to the door in silence and dig our keys out of our pockets. Kayla looks to me once then sets hers on the counter. I place mine beside it. I open the door and step out pulling her behind me as her steps slow.
