Promises

Realization

Everyone gathered by the campfire tonight. Two people sat on each log, Newt & Sonya, Minho & Harriet, Frypan & Jorge, and Thomas & Teresa. (There were others but I don't feel like listing them ALL) 

They talked for hours, telling stories about the memories they slowly got. Frypan and Teresa sang some songs, while Newt played the guitar. She can sing too? Thomas thought. They were in the middle of a song when they heard movement from behind them. 

Thomas stood up in front of Teresa, but Teresa got up and stood BESIDE him. Everyone was ready for an attack. Maybe WCKD. 

But then, a familiar face came from the bushes. Brenda.

All of the Gladers had a shocked look on their faces. But Teresa's just looked mad. 

"Tom!" Brenda screamed and ran towards him. Teresa and Thomas both flinched when she called him that. She was about to hug him, but was stopped. 

"You don't get to do that, " said Teresa. "Let go of me you bitch, why can't I hug my boyfriend.", asked Brenda. 

"Because if he was your boyfriend, that means you would've loved him. Loved him enough to stay by his side no matter what the danger. You just ran away once Blake showed up, and told him to TAKE Thomas. That's not ok. The only reason you want to be with Thomas is for popularity and protection. You don't love him Brenda, he could've died back there, and you could've cared less. So stay away from him, because you don't deserve him." Teresa said, and took her hand off of Brenda's shoulder. 

"Huh, you don't actually believe this Tom, do you. And Teresa, out of all the people here, you don't get to confront me about betraying someone." Brenda smirked. 

"Cut it out you shank. Teresa is right, you don't deserve Tommy. So stay away from us, and don't hurt him. " Newt raised his voice. All of the Gladers nodded, Teresa crossed her arms. Thomas just stood there like a deer caught in head lights. 

"Baby, lets go home and talk this out. You and me, like old times. The only reason I ran away was because I was scared, and I thought you were right behind me. I just followed your directions to keep running if I was ever in danger. So please forgive me." Brenda pleaded and took a step closer. 

Thomas took her hand and walked away. Brenda smiled at Teresa and gave her the finger. Teresa sat back down, too weak to stand up any longer. She felt useless. She had saved Tom's life and he hadn't forgiven her, yet Brenda gave UP his life and he forgave her like that. 

Newt and Minho came over to comfort her. They put their arms around her, and they sat there for an hour, just thinking. 

Back at their house, Thomas opened the door, but didn't follow Brenda inside.

"I'm done with you. You're games your lies. Teresa was right, you don't love me and I sure as hell don't love you. So stop using me as your human shield and stop torturing my friends." With that said, Thomas ran back to the campfire, hoping they hadn't misunderstood what had just happened. 

Thomas saw Newt and Minho and ran up to them. "Where's Teresa. I need her." said Thomas. "Why do you care. You know we thought you had changed, but I guess we just got our hopes up," Minho and Newt started walking away , but Thomas stopped them, "I broke up with Brenda. I love Teresa, and I want to tell her that." They shook their heads, "she went home a few minutes ago. Well, actually she's at the Med-Jack, since she never really moved out. Everything happened so fast. Teresa thought you forgave Brenda, and in case you forgot, you still haven't forgiven her. Why did it take you so long, because she has sacrificed everything, her whole life, for you. How was it that hard to notice," Minho asked. 

"I've always loved her, I guess I was just scared to get hurt again. But, Brenda made me do some things that I still regret. She tricked me..." Thomas said with a sad tone. 

"Just explain later, and go get the girl," Newt said. 

Thomas ran to the Med-Jack and found Teresa there, staring at the ceiling. He knocked and she glared at him. She then began to sob, and Thomas took her in his arms. "Let go of me." she pushed him away. "Stop acting like you love me. Stop acting like you care." Teresa continued. "Teresa-" he was cut off by louder cries, and she began to yell. To confess everything. "I LOVE YOU TOM. AND I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO SAVE YOU. I'VE TRIED NOT LOVING YOU, TRIED MOVING ON BUT I CANT. YOU MEAN TO MUCH TO ME. YOU'RE MY WHOLE WORLD AND I NEED YOU IN MY LIFE. I DON'T CARE IF YOU LOVE ME OR--" and then it happened. 

Thomas had pressed his lips against hers. They both felt the same feeling they had at the rooftop. They kissed passionately for a couple more seconds, until Teresa pulled away. "What about Brenda..." "We're done, I broke up with her, because I realized that I wasn't happy. I wasn't loved." Thomas put his arm around her waist. "And I figured out that YOU are my everything and that YOU are the one I love."

Teresa looked him in the eyes, and kissed him one more time. This time it wasn't rushed, but relaxed and enjoyed. They finally had admitted their feelings for each other, and things were going to be how they had both wanted things to be since the day they met. 

They fell asleep in the Med-Jack, in each others arms. Both had smiles on their faces, because now, they had everything they wanted.
