I waited for the sun to come up before I walked toward the library. If I couldn't return to the nightclub I would search for Tyler a different way. I slipped inside heading for the computer. I started searching for any information on Tyler. I froze seeing he was tagged in a photo with a pretty blond at the club. The caption read: my bff is hotter than yours!!
Tears welled in my eyes, undeniable truth hit me in the face. He was alive and happy without me. My emotions bubbled up as I rushed from the library careful not to use my vampire speed. Once outside I broke down in sobs of rage and pain. What was I to him? Did he ever love me? Was I so easy to leave behind? I wiped the tears off my face frustrated that I let Tyler get to me like that. I froze as my eyes landed on Blake. He stared at me I saw pain mixing with pity in his eyes.
"Ashley," Blake said stepping toward me. I looked into his eyes masking my emotions as I stood tall.
"What are you doing here?" I asked softly.
"I need you to come with me to my coven," he said as confusion filled my eyes.
"Why?" I asked as he sighed.
"Please just this once come with me," Blake muttered. I nodded giving in. I owed Blake so I will give him this. We walked down the street to the skyscraper and down the dark hallway. Instead of entering the same room as before we kept going down the hall coming to a door with a passcode. He unlocked the door leading me into a bright room. There were computers with images of hunters and dead vampires. I saw a map on the wall with possible hunter bases. There were ten people in the room and on the big projector, the nightclub from last night.
"What is this?" I asked softly as Blake started to roll the security footage. My lips parted as I got a close look of the hunter's face. Those green eyes that captured my heart now looked hard as he drove the wood into the vampire.
"Ash," Blake said as I took a step back. I couldn't process the image in front of me. He had been in the alley and I hadn't noticed, I was too scared to notice Tyler was the hunter. Tears filled my eyes as panic gripped me. Even if I found Tyler I could never be with him. Was this the reason he left me? Was he trying to protect me from the world of vampires? "Ashley." Blake touched my arm making me drag my eyes away from the projector.
"It's Tyler," I croaked as Blake watched me. "He's a hunter."
"Are you sure that's him? I thought he looked like the picture but I wanted you to make sure," Blake said as I stared back at the photo. Those eyes that sparkled when he laughed and never once hateful toward me looked at the vampire without regret as he killed him.
"I wish I wasn't but that is Tyler," I said my voice shaking.
"Now you know why he stopped talking to you," Blake said as I shook my head.
"I still don't know his reasoning behind faking his death," I said firmly. "There were hundreds of ways he could have handled the situation and he went with the painful option."
"Hunters are so good at what they do because they have little to no attachment to anyone," Blake said. "He was most likely following orders of some kind."
"I don't care if they held a gun to his head. If I had been in his shoes I would have at the very least broke up," I snapped harshly. "I loved him too much to hurt him the way he hurt me. I'm a vampire who could kill someone and I still didn't let my sister think I died." I noticed every eye on me listening to our conversation. I turned away from Blake walking toward the exit. I couldn't handle this. I could deal with everything up until this point, my ex is a hunter, I'm a vampire and nothing makes sense.
"Ashley," Blake called to me moments before I reached the door. I faced Blake as he rushed over to me. "Promise me you won't confront Tyler. He is a hunter and he will most likely kill you the minute he saw you."
"I won't promise you that," I said firmly pulling the door open. I probably wouldn't confront Tyler but I refused to promise Blake when I hadn't ruled that out yet. Blake grabbed my arm stopping me from leaving.
"Ashley please. We may have broken up but my feelings for you haven't changed and I don't want you to get hurt," Blake said as I fixed him with a glare.
"I get that you want me safe but as you said we broke up and I can make my own decisions," I snapped yanking my arm from his grasp. I walked out of the room down the hallway and out of the building. I barely made my way out of the building before Blake had called to me again.
"Ashley, I'm sorry about the stuff I said at the apartment," Blake said as I faced him. "I was upset and irrational. I should have talked things through instead of making a snap decision."
"You have nothing to apologize for Blake," I sighed. "I shouldn't have asked you in the first place I just thought maybe talking to Tyler would help me get over him." I gasped as Blake pressed his lips against mine abruptly catching me off guard. I found myself kissing him back for a moment before I remembered why we broke up. I pushed Blake away.
"I'm so sorry, I should have asked," Blake muttered as I looked into his eyes.
"I don't mind that we kissed," I said quickly. "But this doesn't change why we broke up." Pain flashed in Blake's eyes before he walked back into the building leaving me standing alone on the sidewalk.
