I lay on the floor of my cell Blake had kept me in desperately trying to sleep. After hours of laying on the uncomfortable floor my eyes drifted shut.
"Mommy," I called my tiny feet on the floor.
"Hey sweets, you're Mom ran to the store real quick," the pretty blonde said scooping me into her arms.
"Auntie," I giggled as she smiled at me.
"You're so pretty, just like your father," she whispered in my ear as I leaned my head on her shoulder. "I love you."
"I love you too Aunt Crystal," I said as she rocked me.
"I'm back," my mother's voice filled the room.
"We are in the living room," my aunt called as my mother entered the room. She saw us with a grin on her lips.
"You love Crissy don't you," my mother said taking me out of Crystal's arms. "Thanks for watching my baby." Pain flashed in Crystal's eyes as she gave a small nod.
"I should get going but I'll see you later," she planted a kiss on my baby cheek before walking out the front door.
My eyes shot open as I sat up. I met her before my mother killed her. I was close to her but somehow I repressed the memories surrounding her. What could be so bad that I would forget her completely? I got to my feet as pain filled my heart. I wanted to understand what happened especially because I was dying because of whatever happened. The door swung open as Blake stepped inside my prison cell.
"Explain why I couldn't remember Crystal," I stated as his lips parted.
"You met her?" He asked as I nodded.
"Yes I met her. I was close to her. I loved her so much as a kid but I forgot her. I don't understand what made me forget and if something happened that has led to you wishing for my death I deserve to know," I muttered as he leaned against the wall. He was debating if he would help me or not.
"I don't know what you forgot. I wish I could fill in the blanks but I can't," he said after a moment.
"Is there a way to retrieve repressed memories?" I asked as he shook his head.
"Only you can get those memories back. I planned so many things to hurt you but I will postpone my plans for a little while so you can hopefully remember what you have forgotten," Blake said exiting the room. I punched the wall in frustration. My knuckles throbbed but I didn't care. I leaned my forehead against the cool wall shutting my eyes. I allowed Crystal face to rush through my mind.
"Please I need to see her," Crystal begged my mother. I stood at the top of the stairs hidden by the banister listening in to their conversation.
"No you can't see her. You coming around is confusing for her. You gave up so leave her alone," my mother yelled at Crystal. She sobbed softly as my mother slammed the door in her face. I waited a few minutes before creeping downstairs and outside where my aunt sat on the steps crying.
"Aunt Crissy," I whispered as her head snapped up her eyes sparkling as she pulled me into her arms.
"Ashley," she smiled holding my tiny body in her arms.
"Are you okay? Why are you and mommy fighting?" I asked in confusion. They never fought so why now?
"She doesn't want me to visit you anymore," she said after a second of hesitation. "She thinks I'm making your life more difficult."
"But how?" I said my child brain unable to wrap around everything I saw.
"Because I'm your mother," she said as I stared at her.
I opened my eyes with tears streaking my face. My whole life was a lie! My mother wasn't my real mother if I believed the memory. Crystal said she was my mother but then who was my father and why did she give me up? Pain shot through me as I pictured her in my mind. I just wanted her to comfort me and explain everything but she was dead and my 'mother' was to blame. I banged on the door until I got Blake's attention. He froze seeing my tear stained cheeks as I stared at him.
"She was my mother," I broke down in sobs as his eyes widened.
"Who?!" He demanded as my breathing became uneven.
"Crystal was my mother," I said my voice cracking as he stared at me. Everything made sense, I looked so much like her. As I child I didn't realize but seeing it as an adult it was obvious Crystal gave birth to me.
"But you aren't my child," he said firmly. "You must be her ex's child."
"Why did she leave me?" I asked weakly as he strode forward pulling me into his arms.
"I don't know but I promise I will protect you," Blake said completely changing his plan. I was Crystal's daughter and he would protect me with his life. I was the last piece of Crystal still in existence and that made me worth saving to him. I guess that explained his attraction to me, I reminded him of the woman he loved. He led me from the cell to a fancy room I could only assume was his. He handed me fresh clothes leaving me to change. I slipped the blue jeans on with a silk bright blue tank top. I looked at my reflection in the mirror with a small gasp. My cheeks had sunken in and I had bags under my eyes from lack of sleep. My face was extremely pale almost as pale as my vampire form. The physical changes were nothing compared to the emotional shift just beneath the surface. I felt broken and confused. My 'mother' had the answers but would she be willing to give them to me?
