I sat on the floor when I heard a low hissing noise. I stood up only for spots to dance across my vision.
"Ashley," my sister whispered moments before I crashed against the floor as the darkness consumed me.
---
I woke a few hours later strapped to the chair again. I looked around for Nikki but she was gone. I was alone again."So did you enjoy your last meal?" The man laughed stepping into the room.
"What did you do to my sister?!" I growled pulling against the chains holding me down.
"What had to be done," he said simply as he walked toward me. "We now know you told us the truth so we no longer have a use for you."
"I knew I was never leaving this room so you aren't telling me something I didn't already know. At least I saw my sister one last time," I whispered as he reached up touching my cheek.
"Shame I have to get rid of you. I had grown quite attached to your fiery temper," he said as I leaned away from his touch. "In a matter of hours the execution team will be here to end your unnatural existence."
"How is it you managed to eliminate so many vampires when you hadn't previously?" I demanded as he smirked.
"I see nothing wrong with revealing that since you are dying. We have several key vampires on our side. For every hunter out there we have a vampire with them assisting in extinguishing each target," he said as I stiffened.
"But why would they help you?" I asked in confusion.
"Because they used to be hunters turned by force," he said as I stared at him.
"Clearly some vampire had a death wish if they thought turning one of you was a brilliant idea," I snapped as he looked at me. "What did you inject me with at the club?"
"Holy water," he said quickly.
"And the gas that knocked me out a few hours ago?" I questioned.
"Holy water just in vapor form," he said with a smirk.
"Why can't I break out of this chair?" I asked him as he laughed.
"The answer if the same. Metal infused with Holy water," he said simply. "My turn to ask some questions. I heard you were engaged. Is he a vampire?" The man asked as I looked away from him a tear falling down my cheek.
"No he isn't," I said softly as my mind floated to the memories of him, his green gaze, his gently but electric touch as he held me in his arms. I glanced at my bracelet before turning my gaze back to the man. "He is human and the best man I have even know. I only wish I could say goodbye."
"But you can't," the man snapped harshly as he turned exiting the room. My mind drifted to a happier place as I lost myself in my memories.
I ran up to Tyler wrapping my arms around him as my lips touched his gently.
"Hey little blue," he smiled as I grinned at him.
"Hi big green," I said lacing my fingers through his. "Happy birthday my love."
"So what are we doing since you planned the whole events for the evening?" Tyler asked as I pulled him into my car.
"It's a surprise but you'll love it," I told him as we drove downtown. I paid for parking before dragging him toward the football stadium. His eyes lit up at the gift. I handed him his ticket as he screamed.
"Front row!" He gasped as I planted a kiss on his cheek.
"Couldn't let you miss this game," I said as we walked through security. We weaved our way through the crowd heading for the concessions. "What do you want babe?" I asked as he sipped his hand around my waist.
"Hot dog with chili," Tyler said softly.
"Okay two hot dogs with chili please and two large drinks," I told the guy behind the counter. He handed us the food while I gave him the cash. Tyler held his own food while we left to find our seats. The game had Tyler on the edge of his seat as the score was neck and neck. I watched the enthusiasm on his face with a grin. I loved him so much and to see how happy this game made him only added to the joy I got from giving him this.
"This is awesome Ashley!" Tyler said draping his arm around me as the game entered the last quarter.
"Anything for you," I muttered as he turned his attention back to the game. Our local team was down by a field goal with a minute left in the game.
"Come on!" He whispered as the quarterback scanned for a receiver. I jumped to my feet as he threw to a guy way out there. I started screaming as the guy sprinted down the field with no defenders nearby before he entered the end zone. Tyler cheered turning to pick me up.
"We won!" I screamed while he held me in his arms.
"Best birthday ever!" Tyler said firmly.
"I have one more surprise for you," I told him leading him to the shop to buy a jersey. "Pick a jersey." He instantly grabbed one with the quarterback's name on the back before walking to check out. His lips caressed mine as my heart fluttered.
Tears pooled in my eyes as I thought of Tyler and how I would never see his eyes look at me that way again all because of my stupidity and my arrogant misunderstanding of my own limitations. Even as a vampire I thought I was indestructible and here I was waiting to die because I was unbelievably reckless to the dangers hunters provided.
