I followed my mother to the elevator riding all the way to the top floor. She headed into her office sitting at her desk motioning for me to sit as well.

"So throughout the day I have been watching you Ashley to see if your views had really changed. I know for a fact they changed because you killed the monster without hesitation and you showed no compassion toward him during questioning. I want you to join us as well as reinstating Tyler if he chooses," she said as I smiled at her.

"Really?" I said as she nodded. "I can't wait to show you what I can do and give you some of my insider knowledge as a former abomination."

"At least something beneficial came out of your unnatural existence though it's much simpler now that you are human," she said as I grinned.

"When do you want us to start? I assume you want Tyler and I to work as a team," I said as she pulled a file out. She looked at the file for a while before answering my question.

"You start today but Tyler I'm afraid has a partner already so you will be working with someone else, a person with a lot of experience who could watch your back," my mother said as my eyes widened. I had assumed she would have me work with Tyler and having a partner makes me slightly less effective but I should still be able to take them down.

"Who is my partner?" I asked her as she handed me the file. "You want me working with Tyler's father?"

"Yes I do," she said as I plastered a fake smile on my face.

"I would love to work with him but I owe him an apology," I said feigning guilt.

"I'm sure he'll forgive you Ashley," my mom reassured me. I heard a knock on the door as my mother jumped up to answer it. I got to my feet quickly as my eyes locked onto Mr. Walsh.

"What is she doing here?" He asked tightly as I looked down.

"I came to help and also to give you an apology for my behavior last time. I blame my vampirism for that and you didn't deserve what I did to you," I said allowing a single tear to fall down my face.

"She's human and now understands why we do what we do," my mother said to him as he crossed his arms.

"What has she done to prove her worth?" He asked as I glanced toward my mother.

"She brought in a live..." She went to defend me but I interrupted her.

"He's right Mom. I haven't done anything hard or difficult at all. Tyler did all of the work to bring in the vampire," I said firmly. "I haven't shown him anything along the lines of being useful." I saw Mr. Walsh's eyes widen with surprise. He didn't expect me to agree so easily with him.

"Fine I'll guide her," he said as my mom sighed in relief. "Come with me." I gave my mom a quick hug before following Mr. Walsh out of my mother's office. He stepped into a room that had multiple types of weapons with a lot of training equipment. I scanned the room before I strode over to a stunning wood stake with a metal handle. My fingers caressed the stake while Mr. Walsh watched me.

"So what do you want me to do?" I asked turning back toward Mr. Walsh.

"I'm going to assess your fighting ability with one of the few vampires we have within our ranks. Don't worry about killing him because he has volunteered to help me train you," Mr.Walsh said as I gripped the stake in my hand tightly. I took a breath as the vampire stepped into the training room. I braced for the attack as a smirk spread across the vampire's face.

"I'm Ken. Are you ready?" He asked as I nodded. He raced vampire speed toward me. My eyes struggled to see his shape as I sidestepped away from him. I ducked under his arm only for him to sweep my legs out from under me. I crashed against the hard floor knocking the breath from my body. I rolled out of the way of his next swing struggling to get to my feet. I limped across the room and then I got an idea. I pretended to walk slowly as Ken sprinted over to me. I waited for a second before I turned plunging the stake into his chest inches from his heart. He stared at me with panic while Mr. Walsh screamed for me to finish him.

"Isn't Ken a hunter?" I asked but Mr. Walsh just kept ordering me to kill him. I didn't want to hurt him but I knew there wasn't another choice so I put my full weight into driving the stake into his heart. Ken's body crumbled to the ground as Mr. Walsh walked over to me.

"Nice work. Ken requested to train you if I agreed to let you kill him," Mr. Walsh said as I breathed heavily. I sat on a nearby chair inspecting my ankle which throbbed with pain.

"So how'd I do?" I asked while Mr. Walsh smiled.

"You did really well for your first fight. Most new hunters have problems even seeing a vampire's movements," Mr. Walsh said as I nodded.

"Maybe I'm used to seeing that. I used to be near vampires all the time," I said simply.

"So I hear you and my son finally got married," he said shifting to a different topic as a smile played at my lips.

"Yeah we did," I said getting to my feet. "We video taped it if you are interested," I said kindly.

"I'd like that," he said as we exited the training room.

"Is that all for today?" I asked as he nodded.

"I'm sure you are exhausted killing two vampires in one day is a lot," Mr. Walsh said firmly. "You need a ride?"

"Yes sir," I smiled as he led me out of the building to his car. He dropped me at Tyler's apartment a few minutes later. I entered the apartment tossing my jacket onto the couch. I walked into the bedroom flopping onto the mattress. I barely shut my eyes before I drifted into a dreamless sleep.
