Quarters

To your surprise, ayou were later informed with a voice mail, that you no longer worked the night shift. Somebody else had applied, and, you shouldn't work the week directly after you worked the weekend.

Hallelujah!

Thank goodness... you flopped on to the armchair in front of the television. You wondered who had decided to apply for the nightshift, and if they knew exactly how much trouble they were in for.

You turned your head and stared tiredly at the phone. For some unexplainable reason, you felt like doing something today. Hm...

You cast the idea of calling someone away. Maybe you would do something with only yourself today.

Before you could even process it, you found yourself out on the sidewalk. Now... where to go to? You scanned your surroundings. There wasn't much of worth. You could still see your apartment building not too far away.

The crisp autumn air hit your face like tiny knives piercing your skin. It was windy out. You pulled your light jacket closer around yourself. Maybe it was about time to start wearing coats again. Looking up, you could see colored leaves, red and yellow, swirling through the air in tiny tornados.

A sprinkler turned on not too far away, and you realized just how lucky you were to not have been in its path.

Moving forward again, narrowly avoiding the sprinkler's wrath, you made your way to a nearby arcade. It wasn't what you had planned on doing, (maybe something more extravagant,) but you couldn't, for the life of you, come up with anything else.

Hours past, and before you knew it, it was 1:00 pm. You realized that, instead of wasting the day away playing PacMan for the 25th time, you should be doing something worthwhile with your life.

You abandoned the arcade and were shocked by the brightness of the sun stepping out. It was dimly lit in the arcade, a purpleish hue bathing every object in the room. Outside, it was back to normal.

You really did want to make the most of this day, because you would be working tomorrow, even if you didn't have the night anymore. It was back to the day job. (You weren't working today, because you had already done the night shift last night.)

You couldn't help but groan just thinking about it. You really needed a better job. Hell, most of your friends that you met at the pizzeria had already moved on before you. Though Mike still worked there, and so did Scott.

Hmmm, speaking of Mike...

You spotted a pay phone. You stepped inside of the booth and fed a quarter in to the slot. Losing one more coin wouldn't hurt, considering you had already burned through at least 15 dollars worth of quarters at the arcade.

There was going to be a carnival open tonight. You wanted to go, but carnivals were no fun alone. So what better to do than subtly invite Mike on a date? You still wanted to see more of him.

"Hello? Who is this?" A tinny voice came out of the receiver.
