Both Nathaniel and Samuel looked at me with curious eyes. "What?" I asked them. I was freaking out. "Take me back. I need to get back to school. I need to find my mate."
"Janessa, you don't even know if your mate goes to our school." Samuel said, watching me pace back and forth.
"Well, take me back, and we'll see." I replied.
"Janessa, calm down." Nathaniel cooed.
"Don't tell me to calm down. You calm down. This whole day has been too much for me. Too stressful. I-I just need to be normal again." They both looked at me, with bored faces, but fear was evident in their eyes. And honestly, I was afraid of myself a little.
"Look, I'm just... tired. Can you take me home?" I said, taking a deep breath. "I-I just need to sleep on it."
Nathaniel nodded glumly. "Where do you live?"
"Oh! I call shotgun!" Samuel yelled, as if nothing happened.
After telling Nathaniel my home address, we got into his car, me sitting alone in the back seat, and started driving.
I watched as Nathaniel would turn his head to look at Samuel every so often, they must have been talking. I stared out the window at the passing trees, bored, and tired of trying, and failing to hear their almost silent words. Also, sometimes I would catch Nathaniel looking at me through his rearview mirror.
The car was cold, and wasn't helping in warming me up. Then my eyes became droopy. I was cold, and tired. I needed my warm, soft bed. I needed a warm shower. I needed a cup of hot cocoa. For god sake, I needed to see my family again.
I found myself curling up into a ball on the seat, and trying to keep my eyelids from closing. But I lost the battle.
I woke up a while later. We were in the city and just about to turn down my street. I finally heard their conversation. They must not have known I was awake.
"-don't know if it's such a good idea, Nath." Samuel spoke.
"Trust me, Sammy. It'll work. We'll work. But you need to stop doing that domination thing. You have to learn to control it. Everyone else knows how too. You could kill her. My kitten."
I cut him off there. "I am not yours and besides, maybe my mate will accept me. Maybe he'll reject me. And if he does reject me, don't expect me to come running into your arms. I can survive on my own." The car was stopped by now, we were parked outside my house. "Also, maybe Samuel isn't like everyone else." I finished and got out of the car. "Oh, and thanks for the ride, and saving my life. But that means nothing." Then I closed the door and marched away.
Once I was in the safety of my home, I was glad that Iris was still at school, and that my parents were still at work. I ran upstairs, stripped off my clothing, and got into the warm shower.
But being in the shower gave me too much time to think, and right now, I wanted to be away from my thoughts. Suddenly my body became cold again, despite the warm water rolling down my skin.
Once I finished my shower, I dried myself off, tied my hair back into a braid and got into some pyjamas. As I was lying on my bed, I remembered the moon necklace I had found on he ground. I grabbed it out of the nightgown, which had pockets, and traced it with my thumb.
Huddled under the warm blankets of my bed, I drifted off to sleep unexpectedly.
|Dream|
I woke up in the middle of the woods, wearing my pyjamas, clutching the necklace in my hand. Crisp leaves were cluttered around my body, and as I wondered how I got here, I looked around.
The sky was pure white, which made the green trees, along with the coloured trees, pop against the plain background. Coloured leaves scattered the ground, and crunched as I moved and tried to stand up.
My knees felt weak, and I felt as though I hadn't slept for three years. Suddenly, Nathaniel appears in front of me, his face showed anger.
"How dare you speak to me like that!" He growled and stepped forward. I had never seen this side of him, so I stepped back, using a bigger step than he had. "I am your erasthai! Your only chance at getting another mate if your other one rejects you. Which he probably will, because you have no respect for the people around you. All you care about is yourself!"
He raised his hand, and as if he had done it a million times before, backhanded me right there and then.
I was stunned at the madman he had become. I held my cheek, mentally cursing myself for almost falling for this lycan.
"Nathaniel." A stern voice said. "Stop it." I turned around and saw Samuel standing a few feet behind me.
"She's my erasthai, Samuel. I can do whatever I want to her. Not like I'd ever want her. She's a selfish, stuck up-"
Samuel stopped him. "Brother. Stop." Suddenly I watched as Nathaniel gripped his stomach in agony.
Then everything vanished. It was just an empty white void of nothingness. "You thought the pain and torture was over. Didn't you?" I span around and saw Nathaniel's eyes.
"Princess, it hasn't even begun." His eyes were wild.
|End of dream|
I woke up breathless and freezing. Nathaniel was right. Everything he said was right. I am selfish. I am stuck up. I only care for myself. My mate will probably reject me.
Suddenly I felt disgusting. I felt like I needed another shower. I felt like I wasn't myself.
Why did I keep having dreams of these two lycans. And what did Nathaniel mean by, "it hasn't even begun."
I suddenly found myself dialling Iris' number. She picked up almost immediately. "Oh my god. J! Are you okay! I've been so-" I cut her off.
"Get home now. I have one hell of a story to tell you."
