vi. earth kills and murphy's law

Iᴛ ᴡᴀs ᴅᴀʀᴋ by the time they got back.  Clarke, Finn, and Wells found them with Atom and Bellamy explained what happened.  He and Wells carried Atom's body back to camp.  Clarke and Finn lead the way and Skye followed behind them all the entire way.  She didn't feel like crying anymore, she was just tired.

Everyone stood as the group arrived and they started muttering to each other when they saw Atom's body, not fully knowing it was his.  Bellamy and Wells set him on the ground and Wells walked away to go dig his grave.  Skye's eyes didn't leave Atom's body.  She felt glued to her spot as she stared at him.

"Octavia, just stay there," Bellamy warns.  "Please, stay back."  This brings Skye back into focus as she finds Octavia making her way towards Atom.  Bellamy tries to hold her back, but Octavia pushes on through.  Skye looks to Bellamy who's already looking at her as Octavia uncovers Atom's face.  When she sees who it is, she begins to cry.  "There's nothing I could do."

Octavia raises her hand to stop him from talking.  "Don't."  She covers his face back up and gets ready to storm off.

"O, please," Bellamy tries.

"Don't."  She pushes him away.  Murphy moves toward Bellamy and stops in front of him.

Bellamy asks, "Lose anyone here?"

"No."

"Jasper?"

"Still breathing.  Barely.  I tried to take him out, but your psycho little sister—"

Bellamy shoves Murphy back before grabbing his collar.  "My what?  My what?"  Skye runs up to interfere so neither Bellamy or Murphy hurt each other.  Her hand pushes against Bellamy's chest to back him up.

"Your little sister," Murphy corrects.

Skye can feel Bellamy's voice through her fingers on his chest.  "Yeah, that's right.  My little sister.  Got anything else you want to say about her?"

"Nothing.  Sorry."  Bellamy looks to everyone else before Skye.  He gently removes her hands from his chest as he steps away from her.  He orders someone to move Atom's body before heading to his tent.  Skye turns around towards Murphy just as he throws his knife angrily at a tree.  Skye surprises him by diving into a hug which he returns right away knowing she needs it.  They head back to their tent where Skye tells him what happened in her own way.  "The acid fog got Atom so you killed him to end the pain?"  Skye nods.  "There's nothing to feel guilty about then.  You did him a favor.  He would've died anyway, okay?"

Skye nods but she doesn't take his words to heart.  There was still a heavy weight on her shoulders as she went to sleep that night and it carried with her into the next day and a couple of days following.  Murphy couldn't even get her out of bed, so he just let her be.  The only time she ever really came out was when everyone else was sleeping and she could be by herself.  Some nights Bellamy joined her, other nights he didn't.  On the night's that he did, they sat in silence as they held each other's hand.  It was the only time Bellamy let himself be vulnerable and let his guard down.  He felt relaxed with her near him.  The same went for Skye.  The only person she'd let in was Murphy, especially after the death of her parents, and it was new for her to let someone else in.
