Chapter 35

Callie’s Point of View

I can’t believe what I just heard! I sit there frozen.

“Miss, your real parents would like to meet you.” The detective says with emphasis on ‘real’. I just slightly nod my head and follow him into a room. I get in there and see two faces I would never expect to be my real parents. There sits Alison and James, the two people that helped me when I was at my lowest in Texas. Alison stands up and walks towards me.

“Callie? You are our child?” she asks with tears falling down her face.

“I think so…” I say with tear falling too.

“Aww, sweetheart!” she pulls me into a hug. I am actually glad that they are my real parents. James comes over and hugs us too. I am still wrapping my head around the whole, kidnapped thing. “So… I bet you want to know how this all happened?”

“Yes…”

“Well here…sit.” James says pointing to the seats. I sit on one side while they sit next to each other on the other side.

“Well, you were born on November 22, 1996. You were our miracle baby! I could get pregnant that easily, but one day it just happened. We named you Maia Marie Lancaster. We had you for almost 3 months until you got taken from us. We woke up to no crying in the morning so we went in and you window was open and you were gone. We really tried looking for you! We didn’t give up until a couple years ago.” I am just trying to let everything sink in. I wipe the couple tears that have fallen down my face.

“We know it’s hard to hear about and to believe, but it’s the truth. We are related by blood, and you are our little girl.” James says while grabbing onto my hand slightly.

“How about we talk about other things while you get used to this whole situation?” Alison asks me and I just nod my head slightly. “How did things work out with that lovely boy Brandon?” she asks with a huge smile.

“Great! He is going to Juilliard for music and is actually in the waiting room, probably freaking out.”

“Well bring him in here! He was so kind and I would love to see him again!” Alison says with excitement. I get up and the detective comes in the room. “Bring Brandon in here for us please?” Alison commands and he walks off.

A couple minutes later Brandon walks in through the door. I stand up and meet him by the door

“Are you okay?” He whispers to me.

“Yeah. These are my real parents.” he looks up from me and towards Alison and James sitting at the table.

“You remember us from Texas?” Alison asks.

“Yes…you are her real parents?”

“Yeah how odd is that?” James replies

—————

We spent the majority of the night talking to them about everything. We were going strong until they brought up one thing.

“Well, we would like you to move back to Texas with us.” James tells me. I look over at Brandon who has the same expression as I do.

“I don’t think that’s a very good idea. I mean I am almost 18 and almost done with my Senior year. The people that I grew up with are here in California.”
