Your POV

"Thank you for being here Y/N." I took the seat across from the school's principle Mr. Robeth as he finishes off his cup of coffee.

"Am I in trouble sir?" I hesitantly spoke up with desperate hope that I wasn't here for something I did wrong.

Though that idea went right out of the window when he shook his head with one of those 'you are way off' chuckles.

"You've been unanimously voted to be this years valedictorian. Congratulations Y/N." My face was definitely showing signs of confusion because why in the world would teachers decide that I was the best choice out of the numerous of students in my grade who fight for this spot.

It's rather flattering to be given this position but there was no way in the world was I highest achieving student in the grade. So something about this seemed really off to me.

"I'm thankful sir but I think you must've made a mistake. A valedictorian is a person who achieves the highest level of academic achievement or the highest GPA. I do not meet any of those requirements. Plus I've barely been at this school for my entire high school life so do enlighten me." Speaking my mind was obviously terrifying but it was the truth.

Mr. Robeth stood up from his very comfortable looking chair and walked over to the front of his desk to lean on it as he looked at me.

"Well that isn't wrong Y/L/N. It's true that valedictorians are given to a person who takes honour classes or the highest GPA but that's not how this school works." He crossed his arms and shook his finger in the air, "No no, the school chooses students with stories. Stories that can resonate with students when they leave here and be inspired."

I found it very absurd that he wanted me to share my story to others. I was never an open book for my friends so how was freely talking to my peers possible?

"I'm sorry sir but I'll have to turn down this offer." I pushed myself out of my seat and made my way to the door. "There's nothing about me that will motivate the people in my year so I'd suggest you to choose Lauren Jauregui. She's very capable for this position and definitely won't let you down."

Mr. Robeth didn't seem to comment back within the seconds of me walking out of his office. Like honestly there was no way in the world I could talk in front of people even if it was pre-written. I already have a problem with keeping things to myself, even my best friends included.

"Everything go okay Y/N?" Ms. Leno looked up as I walked to her desk. I didn't give her a verbal response but the shrug from my shoulders was probably enough of an answer.

She licked her index finger and dragged her finger across the stacked up pieces of notes before filling in the information in the empty spaces. "Well if there's anything you need do come find me. Maybe I can help you with whatever situation is going on."

Holding out the note in front of me, I made sure to eye out the corner she had slightly dampened from her finger. The last thing that I want to do is to touch that exact spot and have the need to bleach my entire hand.

Regardless I was already late for drama so I took the slip and hurried my way to my class. Luckily class was too far away so when I got to my destination, I immediately pass the slip to Mrs. Kea and slide into an empty seat next to Ally. I didn't pay any mind to everyone who was eyeing me like I had three eyes as Ally's gaze was the most prominent one.

I was positive that Ally would want to know where I've been since I'm ten minutes late to class but I adverted away from her at all costs, even if I feel her eyes burning the side of my head. I'm grateful for the fact that Ally is the most loving and caring person I know but that just goes hand in hand with a scary motherly role. I'm rather afraid of Ally when she's strict because all signs of cheerfulness is interchanged with anger or seriousness. Not a sight I want to deal with today.

Minutes in of listening to the assessment task coming up in three week, a piece of paper floats distracts me away from my teacher as I grab the paper in front of me.

Why did you come to class so late? Everything okay?

I peaked over to my side to see that Ally is noting down the important information for our assessment so I take this time to write an answer back to her below her questions.

Mr. Robeth wanted to speak to me about being this years valedictorian. It's weird that I was even unanimously chosen for the position but then he explained that the school chooses student based on a story that other peers can relate to or learn from. Anyways I turned that down and suggested Lauren, thus the reason of being late.

I passed the paper back to Ally for her to read but then my movements were halted by the sound of someone's phone blaring in the room. It wasn't just me who was nervous as we all looked at our own phones, hoping that it was not our fault. I'd explain why we're so scared for our phones to ring in class but to put it short, the last time someone's phone interrupted our teacher, she literally threw the phone out of the window ...

Mrs. Kea turned extremely slow as the ringtone hadn't stopped but then her face went from anger to curious as she looked at her table. She picked up her phone that was on her table and pointed towards the door.

"I need to take this really quickly so stay quiet." She jolts out of the room and the chorus of sighs came out of everyone. Mrs. Kea is a good teacher and all but she's scary.

"So did Mr. Robeth take your suggestion of taking Lauren as this years valedictorian?" Ally tapped my elbow to pull my line of sight from the door.

"Beats me. He didn't say anything as I left so he was probably taking it into consideration." Ally hummed but then she tilted her head. "What's up?"

"No it's just odd that you got chosen considering that you've barely been at this school half of your school life yet thought that you could move us all with your story. Weird."

The door opens once again and Mrs. Kea enters the room, returning back her train of though before being rudely interrupted by her phone call.

"I agree but I think Mr. Robeth will take in account for Lauren over me." I whispered to Ally as I didn't want to get caught by Mrs. Kea who was still talking about what we needed to write in our three page essay.

Sorry this chapter is rushed but WhatAMystique and I figured out an ending for this book. I think I did mention whether if this book should be long and complex or short and sweet but now with how the story line is going, it might be a mixture  ... SO have fun reading this book 😄
