Dinah's POV
With only an hour before Y/N, Normani and Ally would arrive to my house, my best friends were getting ready in their dresses and were also flipping out for what was to come for tonight.
"Holy shit we're actually going to prom with our girlfriends!" Camila squealed as she rolled onto my bed.
"I can't believe it either." Lauren straightened up her blazer as she was almost done with her outfit. "If you asked me months ago who I would take to prom, I wouldn't have an answer."
Lauren wore a long black shirt that was just long enough to barely cover her toes with slight waves in her hair and a necklace that showed off her chest from her blazer.
"I would have bet months ago we would be in our pajamas, having a movie marathon and stuff our face with food." Camila jumped off my bed and sat on the chair Lauren was previously on. "Actually, pizza and popcorn would actually be nice right now."
"Speak for yourself." I rolled my eyes at my friend's statement. "I would have gone either way but I probably wouldn't be accompanied with anyone."
In the mirror I saw the two stare at each other before holding in their laughter, "What's so funny?"
"Don't worry about it." The two waved me off and Lauren started to attend to Camila's hair.
"Seriously, what did you two mean by that?" My voice deadpanned at the two.
"You're saying that the Dinah Jane, who knows everyone in the grade wouldn't be asked to prom?" Camila laughed and immediately cut the laughter, "Yeah, that's funny."
Once Lauren was done with Camila's hair, she slipped into her dress that had a low v cut at the chest with a slit on the right side of the leg. The dress was super flowy but hugged her body really well.
"C'mon DJ, your turn." Lauren patted the seat in front of her and I eventually made my way to her.
Having the time to really look myself in the mirror, I was thankful for the girls who helped me choose out my dress. For some reason, I was having a hard time finding a dress that complimented my body but this cream dress hugged curves in the right ways.
As the time went by, the doorbell rang and the three of us started to scurry to the door. To say that we were nervous was an understatement. It felt like my heart had dropped to my butt and was trying to come out of my throat.
With the girls and I ready as ever, mum had already opened the door and honestly I was in absolute awe.
No one had uttered a word when we all laid eyes on each other. Seeing how Normani and Ally cleaned after themselves was beautiful but the moment I looked at Y/N, there was no one else I wanted to look at.
I was truly mesmerized at how ravishing she looked in that tuxedo and in full honesty, I don't even know if I'll be okay with her looking like that the entire night. Just the sight of her in my mere presence was breath taking but with how dapper she was made me weak in the knees.
Eventually we all walked to our girlfriends and engulfed them in hugs. I may or may have not taken a whiff at Y/N's perfume which just made me even more attracted to her than I already was. It was one thing to look really good but to smell good is driving me crazy.
Going over to the others, we all complimented each other's outfits and how excited we were for tonight. Not long after, I felt someone sneak their hands around my waist.
I turned just enough to know who it was and she snuggled into me. "What's up babe?"
"Nothing but jesus baby, you look gorgeous." Y/N whispered in my ear as I blushed at her compliment. "Looks like I've got night cut out for me so I'll stay near you at all times to let everyone know that you're taken."
I chuckle and unwrap her arms around me, "What are you on about? More like I'll need stay with you the entire night. You're way too dashing to not be stared at tonight."
"Are you insinuating that we'll be going together?" Y/N gasped in fake shock and I rolled my eyes at her.
"Enough flirting Y/L/N. You've already got the girl so let's take these photos and get to prom." Shooting daggers at my best friend, she shot her hands in the air.
With everyone taking their individual and couple photos, I began to admire Y/N and realize a few things.
If it hasn't been for Y/N saving me from Nela on that eventful day, we all wouldn't be as happy as we are now. I wouldn't have been as happy as I am now with anyone and nor would the other girls who found their other halves.
It felt like for once the universe was steering me onto a good path and I was grateful for it.
"Do I have something on my face?" Y/N wiped her cheeks in hopes of getting rid of whatever she thought was on her face.
I grabbed her hand and intertwined it with my own and shook my hand with a smile, "Not at all, I was just thinking how lucky I am that you were there when I needed you."
"If anything, I'm the lucky one because you taught me that it was okay to let my guard down around people again." She slightly smiled as she kissed my temple.
