The sound of clashing steel had to be the most exhilarating thing I'd ever heard. The blade in my hand shivered as it collided with that of another, but I never hesitated to make the right move at the right time. It all happened so fast that I hardly had time to process my movements, but it was as if my feet knew exactly where to step, my hands knew exactly how to twist, and my body knew exactly when to jolt forward or to lean back to avoid a collision.
Sometimes, the blade would twist so that I could see the reflection of my own eyes, brighter than the sun and more determined than ever to do the right thing and fight, even if it meant my inevitable death.
I barely had time to watch Loki and Heimdall skillfully kill their opponents in battle, a sight I would surely not mind sitting back and seeing for myself. I even couldn't help but feel extreme pride towards the aliens, who did a fantastic job of holding their own and helping us tremendously, even though it wasn't their fight to begin with.
A sudden stabbing sensation hit the back of my head, and I dropped to my knees. My sword came to the ground with a clash as my hands flew toward my head and gripped my skull tightly.
Loki barely tossed one of his daggers into my opponent's chest right before he was about to strike and kill me.
Images of people viciously murdered in front of my eyes, tortured to death in gruesome ways, and the sounds of their endless pleads and screams filled my mind, paralyzing me to the ground. Up ahead in the castle, Hela and Thor were hanging over the balcony, Hela's hand gripping tightly around Thor's throat.
The endless torture and images of death only grew stronger, now no longer flashes but instead, full pictures so clear I almost thought I was there with them, in total darkness.
Two men clad in silver armor stalked toward me. Just before they came within arms reach, their skulls exploded, sending shards of skull and blops of brain matter to scatter all over the translucent bridge. Loki raised a brow, shivers causing the hair along his arms to stand straight when I screamed.
I didn't realize what I'd done. I was trapped in my head, unable to grasp what was happening on the bridge. I saw Odin, image after image of him falling over the cliff on a loop and something he said about thunder playing on repeat in the depths of my subconscious. I knew he couldn't possibly be speaking to me, but I had, tuned in to what Thor was seeing, images of his father telling him to be stronger and not give up the fight.
After contemplating his options for a minute, Loki picked me up by my armpits. With chagrin, he started dragging me toward the castle. I didn't get a chance to see the bodies of the men I'd just killed behind me.
Thor's shouts could be heard all across the land. Thunder and lightning burst out of the sky and struck the castle. Electric currents shot through me as they did Thor, momentarily paralyzing me to the ground. The buzzing hit my ears and shook me deeply while I watched Thor from afar. If it weren't for Loki's tight hold on me, I would have collapsed in a heap of flesh and bone.
