Thor knew he needed to get back to earth as quickly as possible. He already lost nearly everything and everyone he cared about in the depths of space and time in an alarmingly short period of time and right now, his priorities were the people on Midgard, with one Midgardian in particular. He'd vowed to follow her to the edges of the universe and beyond and didn't plan on breaking his promise. Thor was never one for breaking promises, especially not those made to the people he loved the most, dead or alive.
He'd made a conscious decision to be the protector of Midgard and with everything going on, the God of Thunder couldn't help but to feel an inexplicable urge to save the day, especially once he learned it wasn't just Midgard being threatened this time, but half of the entire universe. He was never one to seek out revenge before any of this happened, but ever since Hela threatened to take over Asgard, he'd changed his mind on that matter.
So, him and his new allies Rocket Raccoon and Groot had traveled to one of the Nine Realms named Nidavellir, also known as the home of the Dwarves, where their main activity was to serve as blacksmiths in forges where they created magnificent weaponry for the Gods, who in turn protected them against their enemies. Even though the beings were named Dwarves, they were anything but small. Compared to humans, they looked more like giants. They were huge, even standing next to the already large Thor.
Nidavellir was where Mjolnir was made - Thor quite loved telling the story of Mjolnir to anyone who would care to listen - among some of the universe's most dangerous weapons and pieces of armor like belts that could increase the wearers strength, magical staffs that could turn people into animals and gauntlets that could cast protective shields and right now, Thor could use a new weapon.
Upon their arrival, the three beings were shocked with what they saw. The usual lively forges of Nidavellir were now cold and barren, with hardly any light coming in to illuminate their path. The darkness worried Thor, for he had never seen it like this. He remembered the place as being light and warm, with at least a dozen Dwarves working at their forges at the same time. He remembered the smell of hard work, burning wood and melting metal like it was yesterday, yet all he smelled now was the remnants of a dying star burning out slowly.
Broken parts of various swords, battle axes and armory, pieces of unfinished metal and millions of shattered chunks of glass littered the floor in every direction and from what the three of them could tell, the place was completely abandoned and had been for quite some time.
It didn't take long for them to come face to face with the Dwarf king Eitri, who had been the only Dwarf left alive. He tried to attack them at first out of fright, but when he saw it was king Thor who had come to Nidavellir and not more enemies, he immediately felt relieved. Thor grew angry when he learned the Dwarves were left nearly extinct by the hand of Thanos, who needed the forge to create the infinity gauntlet so he could make better use of the Stones.
