Brandon
I watched as Callie ran with Mum trying to catch up with her but Mum gave up and walked slowly back to me. My hands were clutched in anger and I shook my head to made the tears go away. "Brandon, I-"
"Just don't." I put my hand up and sighed as she looked at me with desperation. "I almost had Callie but yet again, you go and ruin things."
"I am really-"
"I don't want to hear it, Mum." My words were like venom as I watched Mum's face expression changed between to guilty and sadness.
"Please, Brandon, I owe you an explanation." Mum begged as tears fell down her cheeks.
"Owe me?" I questioned angrily. "You owe me a whole lot more then a stupid explanation."
"I know." Mum sighed as she looked down guiltily.
"No, you don't." I argued then turned around ready to walk back to school.
"Please. I am so sorry, B." Mum's soft voice whispered and I shook my head then walked to school without a second glance back to my now sobbing Mum.
Lena
I sighed in relief when I saw Callie enter the school again so I don't have to call the group home. I turned around and saw Brandon standing at my door. "Did you know?"
"Brandon-"
"DID YOU KNOW?!" Brandon screamed interrupting me. I flinched then nodded as he bit his lip and tears escaped from his eyes.
"Aw. Baby." I whispered and he ran into my arms then broke down in tears.
"How could they?" He sobbed out and I sighed as I rubbed his back.
"Brandon, breath in for me." I whispered calmly as Stef looked at us watching the interaction. Brandon did it and we did the breathing thing so he could calm down. He wiped his eyes then gave a death glare at Stef. Then, the final bell rang. "I think we all should call it quits and go home." I suggested and Brandon looked at me then nodded.
"Brandon-"
"Stef, just leave him." I interrupted and Brandon ran out of my office.
"But-"
"But, nothing." I said sternly as I put my hand out. "He is dealing with this in his own way and he will be okay."
"How about Callie?" Stef whispered and I sighed as I let my hand fall down to my side.
"She is dealing with this in her own way and she will be okay too."
"I can't just leave it like this." Stef argued and I silenced her with my finger pointing at her mouth.
"Just let them cool down and then talk to them." Stef looked down and nodded. " I promise it won't be like this forever."
Callie
I waited at the gate knowing Lena would of called Rita so I was expecting Bill to come instead but Rita came. I let out a breath when I saw her huge smile, she was the nicest person in the system by far. She hopped out and walked over to me. "How was school?" Was this a trap?Should I lie or tell the truth?
"It was okay." I whispered as we walked over to her car.
"Oh, good, no one called so I was quite pleased. I am glad you did pay attention to my rules." Rita said pleased as she pulled back onto the road and drove.
"Yeah, I thought I should uh, make sure you won't kick me out." I whispered and Rita softly smiled.
"This group home isn't like the other group homes, Callie." Rita responded back. "We don't chuck the naughty ones out. We put on our big girl panties on and help them out instead of chucking them around." I chuckled at her words. "And I am just waiting to see your bad side..."
"I am not my records." I whispered and Rita laughed.
"I know, sweetie." Rita said with a laugh. "But, everybody has a bad side. God knows I do too." I sighed.
"Why can't I just make a fresh start?" I looked at her and she smiled a little.
"Why?" I shook my head.
"Forget it." I said with a sigh and Rita sighed.
"You are a mystery, Callie." Rita whispered as she shook her head and placed her sunglasses on her face. "I am here if you ever need to talk."
"I wish I could tell you everything but you will probably think it's stupid."
"I think stupid is a little over dramatic." Rita exclaimed with a chuckle. "Come on, we have like 5 minutes to go before we get back and this conversation is getting interesting." I looked out the window and Rita waited.
"I want to get on your good side so I can get emancipated and live on my own so I am hoping you will put on a good word for me." I whispered and Rita pulled over and locked the doors.
"I know you think I know only so little about you." Rita exclaimed as she pulled her sunglasses back to show her face. "But I know a lot like I know you chose to come to a group home instead of staying at your biological mother's house after finding out you were abandoned. Do you really think she will write her rights away after filing in an adoption paper to adopt you?"
"She won't get a chance." I whispered and Rita shook her head with a sigh.
"Callie, I know Stef." Rita whispered softly as she turned her face a little. "And I know she will get you back."
"I don't need her because I didn't need a mother for 16 years so I don't need one now."
"But she needs her baby girl back." Rita whispered
"SHE DIDN'T NEED ME WHEN I WAS THREE SO WHY IN THE HELL WOULD SHE NEED ME NOW AFTER 13 YEARS?"
"I am not sure but I know she made a huge mistake which is why she is trying her darn hardest to get you back into her arms again." I sighed and shook my head as I ran my fingers through my hair. "You gotta stop pushing people away, Callie. You won't have anyone else to push away after a while." I looked at her and sighed.
"Let's go." I turned my body away from Rita and heard a sigh from Rita.
"I tried." Rita said with a sigh then started the 4 minute drive back.
