The Talk

Part 29 -The talk-
As Gally has led you into the meeting area, the rest of the gladers follow, they wanna know what he has to say. He brings you and Thomas to the front, as well as Minho and Newt. "Now, as you all know these two have broken a rule" he starts in anger. "Gally-" you try to calm him but he ignores you. "they went into the maze even when they know they aren't aloud to" he shouts and stares at you both. "They need to be punished" he finishes. "One night in the pit" newt says aloud. "One night what's that gonna do?" Gally moans. "Well they did help me" Minho sticks up for you both. "Who's side are you on?" Gally yells. "No sides, the fact is Alby is safe because of them" Minho continues. "And I say we make Thomas a runner" newt tells Gally. "And y/n too" Minho adds. You and Thomas just stand in silence. "Wow" Gally laughs. "After tonight, it's official, y/n and Thomas are the new runners!" Newt finishes and Minho smiles. Gally walks out in amazement and Minho follows trying to reason with him. You smile at newt as a thanks and head back to work. Thomas stays with newt, "thanks Newt" he softly says. Newt nods and pats him on the back as they both walk out together. He gets back to his crop area and notices you're not there, he looks around but can't see you. "Newt" Thomas gets his attention and points to where you are. You're talking to Minho. "You sure you're ready to be a runner Greenie" Minho checks. You just nod, even though you are scared. "Come with me" he tells you and leads you into the woods into a little hut. "No one but the runners ever come in here" he tells you. You both stand around a round table with a cover on top. He quickly pulls it off and it reveals a map of something. You examine it closely. "This is the maze, every twist and turn, every section" he looks at you. "Wait you've been everywhere?" You widen your eyes. "Theres no way out, we've looked everywhere" he looks down. "And you still keep looking even though we all know there's no escape" you lower your tone. "That's just it, I haven't told anyone" he puts his hand on his head. You stand up and put your hands on your hips. "There's gotta be a way out" you say enthusiastically. "That's why I agreed with having you two as runners, there's somethig different about you" he smiles.
