(Pearl's POV)
"Oh Steven..." I muttered under my breath and bent over to pick up his clothes off the floor. I quickly folded them and placed them in a neat and tidy stack. "Much better." I sighed as I step back to admire the cleanliness. Neat piles always seemed to make everything cleaner and better.
"PEARL! GARNET! AMETHYST!" a sharp cry of alarm rang through the room as the door was slammed against the wall. I recognized the voice right away.
"Steven, what's the matter? Are you hurt? Are you okay?" I asked, frantically running over the examine him from all angles. The poor boy had tears running down his eyes and his hands carried a box. He looked around the room before meeting my eyes. In his shaky, sobbing voice he asked, "Where are they? The others? Garnet and Amethyst?" his arms still clutching tightly to the box. " They went out on a mission and left me to look after you. " I replied slowly, helping him to wipe the tears from his face. He turned his head away from me. "Steven what's wrong? Was it what we said earlier about not telling you about your mother's past? Steven, we only wanted to protect you." I explained slowly. Steven shook his head and held out the box. "Mom, she hid Bismuth from you guys, because she thought that this would have protected you." he said, his voice still shaky. I was confused by this statement and a little pained, I had always thought that Rose told me everything but keeping the secret of Bismuth's disappearance once again proved that she had kept certain secrets from everyone, including me. "What are you trying to say, Steven?" I inquired him. He said nothing and simply took the lid off the box he was holding. I had many guess for what laid inside the box, but nothing could prepare me for what was actually inside it. I gasped in shock. I didn't know that she was still here, that she was still on earth. I could felt no emotion, no sadness or happiness, I simply picked up the red gem and turned it around. There was a huge crack on the back of it. I traced the zigzag cut and sighed. "She really couldn't bear to shatter you after all, She really wasn't able to do to you, Coral, even after you asked her to do so...." I finally said, a single teardrop slid down my cheek.
