"My Guardian!" Laura laughed out loud and in a stern voice said,
"Listen very carefully Guardian, stay out of my life. I am doing well on my own. I am getting married, I mean God has turned things around for me so please let me enjoy my new life."
"I am still watching, always watching." The line went dead. Laura let out a deep sigh of frustration. She wanted to yell and cry but she held it in. Her mother and friend should be wondering about her whereabouts by now. She took a deep breath and went inside.
"Laura, we found some cute designs for Brandon and his friends. Check them out." Mingie scrolled through her Samsung tablet in excitement.
"Mingie... this is very simple." Laura said softly.
"I like the guy's face and physique...charming."
Laura laughed out loud. She felt relieved from her weird phone call.
"Next one please." Latoya said trying to stifle her own laughter.
"It's too plain Mingie!"
"What? Do you want Brandon looking like Santa Claus? Decorated like one of his reindeers?" MIngie was horrified.
"Yes! oh Yes! These designs will look absolutely great on Brand!"
"You just had to find John Dumelo's photo." Laura said with a bright smile.
"Any of these will do my love, now we still have to show the man himself."
"Of course Mama! I love you!" Laura said happily and hugged her mother.
"No one can take you away from me Mama. No one."
Hours later the three women ate their fill at the testing area of the Bakery that will be doing the wedding cake and some desserts. They had made their selection and were heading out.
"I can't believe the enormous amount of grounds we covered today! I am so relieved." Laura said with a yawn.
"How could we now when we are three? Come on, let us get some." Mingie said as she stretched her tired body.
Laura's phone began to ring and she quickly picked the call.
"Hello,"
Her eyes bulged wildly at first and then she squealed in delight.
"You are here? Where? In Botswana? For real?"
Latoya and Mingie exchanged puzzled looks but waited for the call to be over.
"Who was that?" Latoya asked.
"Mama! Mrs. Robertson just called! They are here in Botswana for holidays! They are here to visit me!"
"How did they get in touch with you?" Latoya asked in surprise.
"I lost touch with them after a while but they visited Ma. Dikobe and she gave them my number. This is awesome!"
"Are you sure you want to meet them?" Latoya asked with concern.
"Of course! Especially Mrs. Robertson and the twins." She said with excitement.
"If you say so dear. Would you like me to come with you?"
"Mama, if you don't mind, can they come to the house?"
"I will discuss with your father okay." She said with a weak smile. She was sincerely worried about how such a blast from the past could be any good. Lord, let this not be a mistake. But why were they not contacted to ask for Laura's permission to be called?
As they drove home, there was silence as they all tried to digest the new information. Latoya was afraid her daughter could relapse while Mingie wondered if it was a good idea for the ex parents to meet the parents.
By the time they got home, they were worn out and ready to refresh and take a nap before making dinner.
Laura and Brandon planned a small wedding and will be going for their honeymoon in neigbouring South Africa. The Bride to be was very careful not to overspend so their finances as newly weds will not be compromised or strained. She walked to her room and locked it behind her. Tears began to fall down her face as she recalled the terrible childhood memory that was engraved in her heart; the rejection she felt and the disgrace of being returned like an unwanted or damaged product to a grocery store. In her heart, she knew Faye Robertson fought for her and their children were innocent. But was she ready to face Mr. Robertson? She already dealt with Grandma Robertson in the UK (Lord have mercy!), but her son was another case altogether. Is she really ready to face this part of her past she long put aside? Will it bring ill feelings or will she be able to forgive all, once and for all?
"Lord, you are helping me to face my demons one at a time before I could become Brandon's wife. I realise what you are doing Lord... drawing me close to yourself and fixing me up nicely to become the wife and partner I want and need to be to him. You are fixing me up so I can be a testimony to others who are hurting. I will cooperate with you in the process of becoming a vessel unto honour Abba. Thank you for this intense pruning process Jesus. Give me strength to face this one."
