The air was terribly cold and the atmosphere seem suspicious. The wind blew the trees outside back and forth in rhythm and gratitude to the one who created them. The moon had been covered by the treacherously dark clouds; the stars had also taken cover for the very terrible wind that was howling as if in great displeasure of creation itself. Every window and door had been closed, all lights switched off, everything, and including humans saluted the great strength of the wind and went to sleep. Laura also finally decided to go to bed like everyone else; disappointed she would not be able to watch the late night movie she had been looking forward to see the entire week. She sighed softly and went to sleep.
She had not slept for ten minutes when the doorknob of her room began to turn. Her eyes flew opened, fear gripped her young heart. She buried herself under her blanket hoping that would make her less afraid. As if she was outside in the windy night, suddenly her blanket came off completely. Her tongue seemed tightened by a cow's hide, her throat went dry, and no sound was produced by her treacherous mouth. There was intense silence, except for the hissing sound of the wind. Slowly she opened her eyes.
A wave of relief swept over her entire being as she saw who it was. "Scared of lightning and thunder squirt?" the person asked.
"I'm not small you know." Laura replied. "What brings you here, Big Show?"
He did not reply to her question, instead he gently sat on the edge of her bed. Laura sat up.
"Is something wrong?" she asked with concern.
"Shhhh" was the only reply she got.
Something was amiss, Laura felt it the minute Big Show entered her room. They were not best of friends, in fact the opposite since Laura entered the lives of the Rakwela family. But what could be the problem? Why would someone who hated her with passion come to her room at this time of the night? He was sure big enough to protect himself from lightning and thunder. Maybe he came for her, to reassure her that she was safe.
"Who am I kidding? He hates my very sight!" Laura thought to herself. Like the lightning flashes outside, Big Show covered her mouth with his big hefty left hand, and pushed her down gently. What happened next would haunt Laura for a very long time.
