Lauretta has been in an orphanage since few days after her birth. She had suffered several nightmarish experiences from moving from one adoptive home to the other. She was tossed around and each home gave her painful scars to last a lifetime...inclu...

"Come on Lauretta! I promise I won't bite." A tall and deathly handsome young man was sited across the latter in a restaurant not far from University of Leeds campus. The poor soul had followed her for over five months just to get her to agree to one date but still got rejected no matter how many flowers, chocolates and several other gifts he brought. In fact a bouquet of bright red roses was lying helplessly on the table with a red gift bag with a two boxes of magnum chocolate and a beautiful dress from Stuttafords.
"Sweetness, I am crazy about you. I have my future planned around you." Laura felt absolutely no sympathy for him. Just words...nothing but just words. The useless Patrick Moloi must have had uttered the same sweet nothings to poor Lorato and what happened? He killed her himself without looking back.
I refuse to be a statistic.
Indeed Maurice Evans was oozing manliness, money, romance and perhaps love but that was not her concern. Her only concern was that he was making her to look bad. He had pursued her intensely but nothing came out of it. She decided to deliver him out of his misery.

"Maurice..."
"Yes!" He replied happily with hope shinning in his bright brown eyes.
"What do you want from me?"
"A chance to love you and make you happy."
"Did I ever mention I was unhappy or do I look unhappy?" She asked harshly.
"Of course not! I just want to..."
"Save it Maurice! I am not interested in your fairy tale! Go sell your mushy story to someone who is interested. For your information I am doing great on my own!"
"Listen Lauretta, I truly care about you. I don't know what attracted you to me but believe me I have no bad intentions towards you."
"Oh really? Good for you but I am not interested. I came all the way from Botswana to get my post graduate degree so if you don't mind I would like to concentrate on that."
"Why are you so cold and mean?"
"Why are you acting all clingy?" She retorted.
"I thought we could have a future together that's all. You don't have to insult me or shame my feelings!"
"Oh look at poor Maurice, he's hurt. Save your weak sermons for those who are weak like you! Good bye Maurice Evans and I believe our paths will never cross again." She stood up to leave.
"Don't forget your flowers and perhaps you might want to keep it for your next victim..." She waved at him and walked out.
"Cold-hearted witch!!!" He slammed a fist on the table and got confused stares from other customers in the restaurant.
Brandon was about to enter his favourite restaurant to get his takeaway order when a beautiful young woman rushed into him. She dropped her handbag in the collision and he picked it up for her.
"I am so sorry." She apologized genuinely.
"That's okay. Here is your bag."
"Thank you. Goodbye."
"Wait..." He had no idea why he just said that but he decided he would go with the flow.
"Yes..." She was obviously a foreign national, her accent gave her away.
"I am Brandon and you are?"
"Laura." She replied with a smile.
Just then Maurice walked out of the restaurant.
"Save your heart my brother, she won't give you hers." He said sadly. Laura rolled her eyes and was about to walk away.
"Don't ever hurt anyone like that again Lauretta. Someone else might not be so kind." Maurice said sharply.
"It's my life, worry about yours. Love is not by force." She replied
"You are right but you should not treat another human like that!"
"Whatever." She replied and walked away.
Maurice too left with his bouquet of red roses. Brandon watched the retreating figure of Laura and smiled brightly.
"Lord, I have found her. Thank you for leading me to her. The journey will not be pretty but I trust you to help me." He prayed silently and entered the restaurant. He walked up to the payment counter and collected his order.
"It is good to see you again Lauretta Robertson."
Brandon was doing his Masters in Climate and Atmospheric Science at the University of Leeds too. He followed Laura when he could as he was fascinated with her and at how much she had changed over the years. He had forgotten about her until when he saw her sleeping on a bus. Her peaceful and beautiful face captured his heart but after some time she had woken up looking frightened. His heart immediately went out to her and felt deep inside that he must put an end to whatever was bothering her. All he wanted was just to be a friend to her; a shoulder to cry on and someone to trust. It was not love at first sight...no. He realized he had found the person he wants to love and protect all his life.
