Cole winced as his wrists were ensnared in cuffs, the raw pain that flooded them as soon as they were released from the cell's chains.
"I'm sorry," Colton apologized to him before calling the guard over.
"Your majesty," he bowed at the waist in greeting.
Colton nodded once," tell my mother that we're ready and that I'll be transporting him to the courtyard." He ordered and both brothers watched him leave.
"You're going to anger her, brother." Cole muttered, rolling his shoulder.
"I honestly don't care for that."
His eyes widened at his words.
Has mother's favorite son actually disobeyed her? Although it might have been a small crime, it weighed heavily on Cole's mind. Colton has never once disobeyed their mother, not even to protect his younger brother from all the pain she's inflicted upon him.
"Why are you going on with this?" Colton asked him, looking into his red eyes that seemed to settle to a dark brown." Why are you not escaping as you've always done before?" Cole groaned as wrists burned.
"Why continue with this punishment when you can stay with her-"
"And watch as mother tries to kill her again?" He shot." I will not stand back this time and watch as she hunts her down and kills her before me."
"You wouldn't understand the pain of losing a lifemate because you're mother's favorite. She would never dare harm your female."
Colton's eyes widened slightly at his words.
Mother's favorite?
He opened his mouth to deny everything, but the guard from before walked in.
"Your majesty, the queen ordered to bring the prisoner-"
"He is not a prisoner." He spat harshly and the guard bowed his head.
"Forgive me. The queen ordered that we bring his majesty right away. The trial is to start as soon as he arrives." He said and turned away as quickly.
Cole frowned but followed after him, leaving Colton alone for a few minutes to gather his thoughts.
When they got to the palace, Cole could see many gathered around for the trial, and his heart raced as his eyes fell on his mother's form sitting on her throne.
"Cole?"
His breath got caught in his lungs, and froze at the familiar voice. Colton stopped as well, the air in his lungs freezing as he looked at his lifemate.
James and Carly stopped as Cole met their gazes with a blank one. She gasped inwardly at the sight of him in torn clothing and moved to him but was stopped by the guard.
"Leave us," Her eyes met Colton's but he avoided her stare, turning to the guard.
"Allow him to speak with them for a moment and I will personally bring him." The guard looked at him unsure before leaving them with the wolves.
As Gracie stepped out from behind James, both lifemates froze as they looked at each other.
