Chapter Twenty-Four: Lies

Haleigh's breath hitched in her throat as Zander pulled his navy blue t-shirt over his head, he tossed the shirt onto the floor. Haleigh couldn't help but admire Zander's torso. His muscular figure was mesmerizing to her. She couldn't help but run her hands along his defined abs. Zander quickly leaned down to kiss Haleigh's lips. She could feel herself growing excited and her breathing was coming more rapidly as Zander's hands explored her damp, naked body. His warm breath caused shivers to run up and down her spine as he placed kisses along her neck. Zander's hands moved softly against the skin of Haleigh's inner thigh. She couldn't suppress the small moan that escaped her lips as she arched her back, begging for more.
Haleigh ran her fingers gently down Zander's sides, and she could feel the goose bumps begin to form on his skin. She quickly began working at the button on his jeans. Soon his pants and boxers accompanied his shirt on the floor in a messy pile. Haleigh wrapped her legs tightly around Zander's waist as he began moving their hips together. Zander's right hand moved to Haleigh's breast as he massaged it gently, his other hand pinned Haleigh's right arm above her head, their fingers intertwined. Haleigh's moans were growing louder as she clutched the sheet on the bed with her free hand...

Haleigh and Zander lay silent in his bed. Haleigh's head rested on Zander's bare chest as she counted each beat of his heart. Zander traced circles on the small of Haleigh's back. She sighed deeply as her eyes fluttered shut.
"You gettin' hungry?" Zander's soft voice startled Haleigh. She glanced at the alarm clock that sat on one of the night stands. It was almost five pm. Haleigh was so caught up with being with Zander that she had become unaware of time. Hours had passed since she had gotten out of the shower. Yet it felt like it had only just been minutes. "I could order a pizza."
Haleigh's phone vibrated from somewhere in the room. She sighed before leaning up and placing a kiss on Zander's cheek. She got out of bed, found Zander's navy blue t-shirt that lay in a pile on the floor and slipped it on over her naked body. She then proceeded to find her cell phone, which had somehow lodged itself between the mattress of Zander's bed and the wall. Sam had been continuously trying to get a hold of her. Haleigh's phone lit up with dozens of missed texts from her roommate. She skimmed through some of them.
Sam: Where are you?
Sam: We need to talk now.
Sam: Kicked Charles out for the night.
Sam: Come to the dorm so we can talk!
Sam: I'm serious Haleigh.
Sam: This is important!
Sam: You better not be doing what I think you're doing...
Sam: Haleigh!
Sam: UGH TEXT ME WHEN YOU GET THESE!
Haleigh felt her brow furrow with confusion. What could possibly be so important? Sam had barely said five words to Haleigh in the last week due to their ridiculous fight they had had. Things seemed to be awkward between the pair and Haleigh was having a difficult time repairing that relationship. So why was Sam so desperate to talk to Haleigh now?
"Everything okay?" Zander sat up in bed a concerned look swept over his face as he looked Haleigh up and down.
"Yeah. Um, do you mind if I run to my dorm really quick? I just want to grab a few things." She partially lied. She did need to grab a few more change of clothes, but she also was curious as to what Sam needed to talk to her about.
"You don't need to ask." Zander smiled as he stood up from the bed. He made his way over to Haleigh who was still wearing just his t-shirt from earlier. He cupped her cheek in the palm of his hand before leaning in, his naked body was pressed against Haleigh as he placed a firm, but passionate kiss on her lips.
"Why don't you order a pizza, and I'll be back before it gets here." She smiled as she pulled away. Zander nodded. Haleigh slipped on a pair of jeans that she desperately needed to wash soon. She pulled on a baggy sweatshirt and her converse before tieing her tangled hair into a messy bun. She slid her cell phone into her back pocket and headed out the door.

Sam sat on her bed, her eyes were glued to her phone screen and her thumbs were typing words quickly. Her phone continuously vibrated in her hand as she sent and received multiple texts. Haleigh stepped into the dorm room, confusion lit up her face and she shut the door behind her. She slowly made her way over to her bed and sat down on the edge.
"What's going on?" She wondered, her hands were inside the pockets of her hoodie as she sat uncomfortably on the edge of her bed. She was all of a sudden regretting coming here. She should have just stayed with Zander. Whatever it was that Sam had to tell her, Haleigh didn't want to hear it. She already knew it was bound to be bad news just by the look on Sam's face.
"Haleigh, how well do you know Zander?" Sam asked her roommate, momentarily putting a halt to her texting. She looked up from her phone, glancing into Haleigh's eyes.
"I mean, as well as you can know a guy in two weeks." Haleigh said truthfully as she shrugged her shoulders. Even though it had only been two weeks, Haleigh felt as if she had known Zander for years. Zander had quickly become the first person Haleigh had felt comfortable being around in months. He had told her about his family and how he was raised. She had told him about how her mother had left her family when she was just two years old. She confided in him that her father was a drunk, besides Shane, she had never told another soul about her father's drinking problem. And she had told him about her anxiety disorder. She felt like in the last two weeks that this guy had easily become the most important part of Haleigh's life. How was that even possible?
"So not very well then?" Sam's voice brought Haleigh back into reality.
"Sam, what is this about?" Haleigh glanced at her feet, waiting for the bad news.
"Haleigh, he's not the prince charming you think he is." Sam sighed. She unlocked her phone and pulled up a picture from the Kappa Sigma party Zander and his band had just played at last night. The party Haleigh had refused to go to, but she now wished she had. The picture showed Zander, his hand pressed against a wall as he leaned over a pretty redhead, their lips were locked together in what looked to be a very passionate kiss. Alyssa.
Haleigh's heart pounded loud in her chest, her face felt like it was on fire and she knew that if she had looked in a mirror at this second that her face would have been a deep shade of red. Tears pricked the back of her eyes, threatening to escape and leak down her face. This couldn't be real. There was no way in hell that Zander would have rode an hour that night to save her, and then went off to a party and kissed another girl. There was definitely no way that he would kiss another girl and then not even twenty-four hours later have sex with Haleigh. He wasn't that kind of guy.
"Haleigh?" Sam's voice sounded like it was a million miles away. Haleigh was having a difficult time catching her breath. This couldn't be happening. "Haleigh are you okay?" A panic swept over Haleigh as she quickly rummaged through her night table, she pulled out her spare inhaler and took a puff, relieving her lungs.
Silence fell over the roommates as Haleigh contemplated her next move.
